Torn Tendon - Now What?

One of my best friends found out today that his 11 yr old pointer has a torn tendon. WHat is the best surgery for her to have and what is a realistic expectation for her as far as everyday life and hopefully hunting again? This is one of those once in a lifetime dogs that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up when you see her work. She isn't even my dog and I feel like I have been kicked in the b--ls. I did some reserarch. A Torn tendon usually happens to the "week-end warrior" - ad who is worked hard on the week-end but not during the week. Good lesson for me to remember.
