Pointing dogs for bomb & narcotics use????

Post by zodiakgsps » Sat Jan 24, 2009 10:16 am

Didn't want to hi-jack the other thread......the topic of using a pointing dog for bomb & narcotics use was brought up. Yes, they can make quite good dogs for this. I have a GSP that went to NY and is certified, he passed with flying colors. His handler loves him, he says he prefers to use hunting breeds over any others, his last dog was a springer. Duece has made many busts over the last year, including this one at the Buffalo airport:

And yes, he's a heck of a bird dog also.

Our local county sheriff's dept. uses a GSP as a narcotics and rescue dog. When he came through to do a sweep at our school I had the chance to talk to him about his dog and hunting.

My wife trained a DK for drug detection and protection.

He was certified on 7 narcotics. He failed his protection test for not keeping his hold when shot around. He was a bird dog first...every time the gun went off he would release and look in the sky for falling birds!

He is the dog in the show about GSP's on AP's Breed All About It.

His son is also known Nationally for locating bodies under water.
