VALLEY VETERINARY SUPPLY

Post by prairiefirepointers » Wed Jan 21, 2009 8:32 pm

Anyone deal with Valley Vet Supply? I ordered their catalouge cause I'm interested in purchasing my vaccinations thru them instead of my personal Vet. Gotta save money where you can.. Or do you know a similar venue to purchase stuff thru that you know to be reputable, cost effective and good to your knowledge. Thanks!

Yeah, we use Valley Vet mostly for horse supplies, but also for some pet products. Typically, I price out all our needed supplies at Valley Vet, Jeffers Pet, Petedge, and Drs. Foster and Smith. Depending on what we're getting, the most cost-effective store will vary (ie Petedge is Great for toys). Drs. F&S and Valley Vet are the only ones out of that selection that do sell vaccs. They've all got good service, but for Petedge is by far the fastest... but then again, I'm in the NW, a good distance from any of them I think. Valley Vet has free shipping (except on certain items/freight) on orders over $25, so that's nice.

We usually take our pups to the vet for first round of vaccs (so they can check them over too) and then buy vaccs for the litters at a local farm supply store. While your options might be wider through VV, I think the special shipping costs might make it all just break even.... I'm not sure, though, since I haven't priced them in bulk (per case of vaccs). Either way, it's a lot cheaper than taking the pups to the vet for the whole series. :)

Hey Jess, Valley Vet is good, but they are in Marysville,Ks which means you and I pay sales tax on top of shipping. I buy all my meds from lion country supply. I think the 5-way puppy shot is $3.99. I have been using them for several years and have not had any problems.

I use them for my equine supplies. Got all of my fence insulators and my solar fence charger from them. Been happy so far. They dont really carry the tack and riding supplies I need, but as far as supplements and "around the farm" items, they are great.

There are lots of places to buy Vacs & the most economical is buying the 25 pack, less then $3.00 a piece. One trip to the vet for shots would pay for vacs, syringes,& shipping. :D

I use Jeffers. For me, it's one stop shopping--since they sell supplies for all kinds of pets and horses.

I have used Valley Vet for alot of stuff but for me its easier to buy straight from my vet. He's 10 minutes away and will give sell me everything for a dollar over cost to take home and administer myself. Then if you have any problems or questions you still have a resource. You might look into that. VV has been great though if I am not in a hurry I stop by there when I am in Marysville.

Took the Valley Vet Versus Jeffers Pet challenge today.

Valley wins as they were almost $11 cheaper, despite having to pay sales tax. Free shipping since I'm in Kansas. :D :D

Thanks for everyone's input

I was just looking at their catalog today. I ordered a case of vetwrap from them. The issue I have with medications is finding a vet that will prescribe them. Most vets make money off the medication as well as the office visits.

as a guy who owns a number of dogs I want to save money where I can,yet as someone who does service calls for hvac/r
on emergency basis I see both sides, the customer and the provider. As a service guy,I hate going out on a weekend for a customer who never uses us for routine stuff.
I have found a balance with my vet,I buy all the vaccines from them, and give them myself. They are nice enough to
give all my dogs there rabis shots when the horse vet comes out to give my horse his shots, and they charge me 15 dollars per
rabis shot.,for a big saving over takeing the dogs in.
By doing this,I feel better when I have to call my vet on a sunday when my dog hurts himself,as it is my regular vet I am taking him to,and the vet has all my records as far as vaccines ect.
In my business,we are seeing more people go around contractors and buy parts, ect from wholesalers which in turn forces
us to raise other prices to stay in business,as like anyone else we need to make a profit also.I even see in equiptment
like ice machines, where the customer can buy the ice machine cheaper from a big wholesaler than we can by from our dist.
Yet when one of these ice machine break,we get the call.Who gets the warranty work? we do,,but believe me we make
up for it,if we did not sell the machine.
So my point is,I use my vet for routine stuff,so when emergencies come up,we have a good relationship already.

Yeah.. I understand your point. I vet with 2 different facilities. The main one is our regular vet and my family has been with her every since she started in our nearby town about 15 years ago. However, she is a realist and therefore knows that routine shots and vaccinations when you are holding down a fair number of dogs, breeding litters, ect gets costly quick. She one day showed me how to admininster all our stuff, and encouraged me to buy our own vaccines to save money. Glad she did, because it saves alot. The other facility is a animal hospital that is open 24/7 365. We keep in good with them also.. bird dogs hardly ever get hurt during the week, or during business hours.

Another perk to giving our own vaccinations, is no scheduling appointments around our schedule, driving to town, saves gas, time and my patience.
