How old?

Post by highcotton » Sun Jan 18, 2009 11:12 pm

My brother's mix-breed yard dog died yesterday. That old dog lived to be 20 years 5 months old. Ever heard of a dog living that long?

A family down the road has a EP/GSP mix that is a pet, and he is 17 years old.

Only rumors... Pretty sure I know one that made it to 18, but I failed math.

I had to put down my first bird dog at about 18 1/2 because his back legs just couldn't carry him any more.

I've heard rumors of toy breeds that lived 20+ yrs, never known one. Hannah made a few days short of 16 and her daughter made just over 17 so my ex tells me. Otis was three months shy of 16.

If it's on the internet it HAS to be true! Just joshin'.

Our first dog growing up was a collie that lived just past 18 1/2 years old..................Gypsy. She was a fabulous dog, one day she just decided it was time, and went and lay under the porch and that's where she left this world.

My Dad had an Austrailian cattle dog that lived to around 19 year of age. The best herding dog he ever had.

I had a black lab who lived to be 18yrs 6mnths, he was a rescue I hand raised from a 2 day old pup. Could still swim for an hour at 16. Was still getting around, but got incontinent (bowel and bladder) so had to put him down. Still miss that dog, he was one smart cookie.

I had this one dog named hooch he was just a mutt. He was about 3 when he came to us, at least that is what the vet said. He was a stray with a bad sore on the side of his head (hot spot). We had him with us for 16 years then his time came. He was a great dog! and will be missed. God Bless the Old Dogs!!!

my family had a weiner dog that someone found and then gave it us. I took him to the vet the same week we got him. He did look pretty old and was way overweight (25lbs). the vet said he was at least 10 years if not 12. We had him for 12 years then my dad ran over him. But who knows how old he was.

I had a pointer female that lived a little past 17. It sure leaves a hole in you when you loose one of those old-timers.

I have a whippet that will be 15 in June if he makes it that long. He has a problem with his digestive system and can not get full benefit of his food and stays hungry. He still keeps the 7 month Llew in his place though. I will miss this guy for sure.
