Dog Dooley
Dog Dooley
I was thinking about getting one of these(Dog Dooley) or getting suggestions from folks about what you do with your dog poop? I have two dogs and with two small kids have to keep the yard picked up and I am getting tired of putting it in plastic grocery bags and putting it in the trash. The trash can gets pretty ripe in those hot summer months. Does anyone use that Dooley system and what do you think? Any alternative ideas are welcome as well.

Re: Dog Dooley
The Doogie Dooley is a very, very small septic tank. As such, the central question is whether the soil where you put it perks at a sufficient rate. If it doesn't perk super well, the DD won't work. There is also the question of volume...
Here is a something that I found with a quick google that covers some of the same concerns:

Re: Dog Dooley
Thanks for the info Greg. I may try a homemade version and see if it will break down and not smell too bad. I have a good south facing slope that stays pretty warm in the winter and it is far from the house for smelling.

Re: Dog Dooley
I have a friend that used a 50 gal barrel and buried it so that the top was 4 ft bellow the ground (the barrel is laid on its' side) and just made his own septic tank. It has an attached tube with a cover on it where he can feed the crap in and he has never complained. No smell or mess. Takes a ton of work but it works.

Re: Dog Dooley
We have an older Dooley and it's a frustrating waste of time for us. Our yard has lots of clay and the perk rate is terrible.
We've been bagging again for the last few months.

Re: Dog Dooley
I wonder if you overdug the pit, by say 3x and backfilled with sand--if that would work. We have several regions in my SE Iowa work area, where houses are on sand filter septic systems due to poor perk. Denise
