old pigeons killed my new bird...Help!

OK so i have 3 adult pigeons....I have just got 5 more YB's that i am keeping separate they were floor birds that could not fly yet....one of them was big enough i thought to go in the coop...he had grown all his feathers.....so i put him in last night while the other birds were flying i went up at dark to check on it and it was fine....when up today and it was sprawled out with the feathers gone off his head you could tell they had flogged it and pecked it....How am i supposed to add new birds to my coop? was he just not big enough to take care of his self yet?

Pretty much. Pigeons can be pretty territorial and YBs can be very timid. YBs that have not mastered getting up of the coop floor yet will be picked on by the older birds. Best to keep the YBS seperate until you are ready to bob train and start to Fly them ( at least 30 days old....) then they strong enough to defend themselves.

I'll have to make something a little bigger to keep them in for a little longer right now i have them in a dog crate.

Put some stuff on the floor like 5 gallon buckets or boxes and make small spaces for them to hide like in a corner or something. They will get into the small spaces and the others will let them alone "sometimes". It is best to wait til they can fly to put them in with the older ones but if you can't them this might work.
