Was it a very short flight to the loft.It is usually recommended that you wait until they are flying in a group and leave the loft on their own for short distances. Then you take them on training flights first short about 3 miles and increase it a little at a time until you work up to some distance such as 10 or 12 miles . Then you can make bigger jumps

That is too far for a first flight.
I will be surprised if you ever see them again.
Hope I'm wrong.

I hope they come back for you. The first time we took ours any distance, we probably went 1/2 mile from home. Once they were released, they did circles forever and disappeared. Took 2 of them about 24 hours to find their way back and the 3rd one never made it (hawk food I think). Good luck. Denise

How you get some back but I don't think you will. I start mine the first time in the yard, then to 1/2 mile, 1mile, 2, 5, 10, 20, 30, 50,100. They have to be loft flying for more than 2 week and staying up for a while. They also have to be routing (flying out of sight). They also have to be flying in 1 group. If they are not returning good from any distance like if it takes a very long time from them to return from 10 miles they don't go further until they are coming from that distance good. If you have 20 pigeon you are training then take them all the more the better then once they have flown good from a certain distance then let them fly back one at a time.

Wow, four days to get home from 5 miles out. It's amazing it made it back. Good luck with the other two. Denise
