These are my two puppies I got from Berg bros. Setters in Mn. The pictures were taken during training the last couple of days. They're a handful, but have been alot of fun.

OK, I guess I'll join in since this thread is up the top again. We have four Irish Red & White Setters. They are at varying stages of being trained for hunting and field trials. Our oldest is 4 year old Emerald that we just aquired the end of May. She's my #1 field trial prospect at this point. Next is our girl Rylee who is almost 2. She has her Junior Hunter and is training for Senior/Master. My husband also hunts over her. Our male Toir is a year and half old, we imported him from Argentina. He's in field training but will probably also be our first to enter the show ring next Jan after our setters have their full AKC acceptance on Jan 1st. And we also have a new puppy, she's 5 months old, her name is Abigail. Right now she's doing beginning field work, just learning to get out there and she's had a few birds flown over her. We've only had her for a couple of weeks.

Couple update picts from a training session this past weekend. Deuce is 13 months old. We set up a tracking test and she did very well. The pointing picture is her on point of a quail at the end of the track. The second is of her swimming and retrieving dummies. I am really happy with the "versatility" of my setter. Maybe she will try to keep up with Yawallac's swimming EPs :)

These are my friends' dogs. I love the setters. That Spinone in the back is one sweet dog though. This was taken in Maine. These setters are the only ones I've met but they are great dogs.

I have had LLewellins for four years now and have had nothing but great days in the field. I have three males and three femals. I learned all that I know about LLewellins from Derry Argue.

My male Llewellin turned 11 in May. He's starting to show his age. Had a blood workup recently, and will get results tomorrow. I'm afraid this may be his last season to hunt.

I would think any bird dog is trainable to a great extent. It depends on the trainer and the dog. The breeding of the dog makes some difference. If you are training yourself, get some training tapes and help. You can get a lot of help on these forums, but others can give you better training advice than I can. Now is a good time to start.

My friend was 14 when he bought this dog, Uplander's Ellie (2 now).
He learned to train her by reading and by help from his friends.
Essential factor was that she was well bred from hunting lines... Shady Hills Billy was her sire.

As a Setter lover just thought I should add to the discussion. Here is my recent addition to the family. We picked her up last week and she is still just a little bit. Just about 7 weeks old today. I must say I am very impressed with her bold and intelligent ways already. House trained and responds to commands in less than a week. She has not met our other setter yet because he is at training camp. She still needs a name though. Any suggestions? The family does not like the names I picked out.
At least Setters aren't as fattening as potato chips.
No outdoor pics yet due to weather.

Wait three months and will have forgotten her name, won't have a clue what come means and will wet on the carpet when you aren't looking.

I had a male pointer out of Davis Final Touch with a rear leg marking like that. It really defined his running lick when he was in open country...reminded me a an old locomotive going full steam...
