Hey Steve, I'm keeping this thing alive for you! How about posting those pics of your two new boys for us :D I'm pretty sure you've got 'em now, right?

Here's Remi a couple weeks ago at 10 weeks old. Field photos are of him on planted quail, and of course one of him just looking handsome.

Hey, those chestnut setters are awesome! Thanks for sharing. Here are a few pics I took last week of my 14 month old setter. He is doing great and is standing his birds well and got into a mess of wild roosters this morning! We have a ways to go, but he is really fun.

Those chestnuts are nice looking dogs. This topic is the first time I have ever seen any pics of them. Sure there isn't some liver colored pointer bred in there somewhere? :D

I feel kind of guilty seeing everyone else's setters on here. They are so lean and in such good shape. My old spayed 8 year old female setter looks like she is fat as a tick compared to all the other setters.

Here is a decent one of Brownie in the field instead of on the porch! Kinda half locked up on a place where someone had been training earlier in the day (feathers on the ground)

Image

And here is another... I swear... I have no idea where that tongue goes when he is just chilling out! Was a little warm Saturday afternoon (was in the 50s that morning!) but he was driving me nuts and had to get him out of the house.

Image

And one more.

Good he!! Steve! How many setter threads do you need to keep you happy??? Theres only so much that can be said about them...

"Look at that feathering"
"What kind of conditioner do you use??"
"How often do you give your setter a pedicure?"
"Has you dog ever refused to hunt an area because it might mess its hair up?"
"Have you ever refused to turn your dog out in an area because it might mess its hair up?"
"How long does it take to properly groom your dog after a hunt?"
"Has anyone found the best way to remove burrs without having to trim or (God Forbid) having to (it pains me to even say it) pull out (OUCH!!) any of their beautiful hair??"

Did I miss anything???

These Setter threads need to be Rivived more often since it seems this is a predomantly GSP site most of the time.

Thanks!

I am pretty excited about where he is going to be as far as a hunting dog is concerned. He is a great listener, and a fast learner so if he has any interest at all I am sure he will do fine. I would love to get him on some live quail soon though. We have just been doing the wing on the string, keeping things light and fun.

To update my earlier post, I'm officially a setter guy now. I'm trying to add some photobucket pics of my pup that are 640x480 and for some reason I'm getting an error that says "Your images may only be up to 768 pixels high."

What a pain...

You guys are NOT making it any easier to resist the 'call of the setter!" :D :D I am working on a book about Setters and Pointers (volume two of my work on pointing dogs) and I will be very, very surprised if, by the time it goes to print, the missus and I don't have a Setter and/or Pointer in the home. Right now, I am leaning towards a Setter...mainly because I've been photographing and hunting over more of them lately, but there is just something special about em...can't quite put my finger on it....

Here is a link to some of my recent shots. The dogs on the first page are my buddy's dogs in France, the second page has shots of American bred dogs I photographed at Colvin Davis's summer camp in Manitoba http://www.craigkoshykphoto.ca/p191899691#h2b468720

When i was first hunting over 50 years ago, when someone mentioned a "birddog,' they were talking about either a Setter or an E. Pointer. Now you have all these "off- brands" and "stub-tails" that produce arguments of which is better .

Personally, I feel Setters Rule especially for the ones of us who primarily are just hunters. However, a good dog is a good dog no matter the breed, and different strokes for different folks! :D For the trialers, it's great to have different breeds that are suitable for different venues.

By the way, it's interesting I think that I started this thread over 4 1/2 years ago.

Indy is just now 18 month. We made a trip out to Montana in mid October where he started to range out more. The last day there I had him standing at 550 yards.

Around here he is more like 150 - 350. But what I am seeing is that if we are not finding birds he continues to range out more.

I really like him a lot
