All around producing GSP sire? (Field Trial bred)
This may be an odd question, but what GSP male out there is producing pups to compete and be in the winners circle NO MATTER what venue the pups are run in (Field Trials, NASTRA, Walking Trials and bird dogs) I completely understand that it isn't just the male that makes the pup up in general (the dam has A LOT to do as well) probably more then the male.
What male (stud dog) is throwing style, brains, great training attitude, run, great bird prey and so on.
I know I probably didn't word something right, but I still look forward to hearing your opinions.

Probably something out of Walnut Hill as long as you weren't looking specifically for All Age or NGSPA. Plus, you could include AKC and UKC Conformation and NAVHDA in that selection.

I'm very happy with my little female out of Walnut hills GSP "DC Gambles Sam man MH". You can see hattie in posts in the general forum labeled Mcshanes Hattie. She is a very stylish dog with great looks and great prey drive! So far very trainable! I could not ask for more its all up to me now! She already won her first AKC puppy stake at 6 months and a week.

Gamble's Odyssey Fritz, I know he isn't the only dog around that produced pups successful in many venues but he has produced a ton of nice ones.
Numerous winners out of multiple females.

Very interesting folks. Keep them coming. Remember the male being a producer rather he's bred to a Field Trial female or a gun dog female. (Run, brains, bird prey, biddable, etc)

Oh, well. There are some nice sons of his out there (not my ugly mutt) that could certainly be used. Ricky was an offbeat pedigree and so were some of his successful breedings. Not many people trialed hb dogs out of him. Kind of a political thing if ya know what I mean. I'm pretty sure he's produced nstra champs.
As well as many fine hunting dogs with great temperaments and personalities.
I've been around Rick in training and trialing as well as living with him in the house to know he was one of the best GSP'S to ever take a breath.

I like the Slick stuff, Joker is winning about everything out here it seems and his littermate sister is winning a lot also.
The Prairewind has some nice dogs that win a lot here in the west.
The Good Docs Dunfur bred dogs seem to win quite a bit, heck he has won two OPEN AF Ch. Helluva feat.
I have seen Crash run many times, very nice dog.

But pups out of one of them dogs are still available and for whatever reason the owner of the litter can't almost give the pups away.

Not that I'm counting but it's 3...aww, heck, who'm I kidding, I'm counting, those are some cool ones to win - Idaho Open twice and Northwest Chukar Open once. Gonna win two more next week.heck he has won two OPEN AF Ch.
I have no idea the answer to the OP question,I honestly don't follow the GSP's that much for a guy that has had them for almost 40 years, but if someone can give me a heads up on a liver roan that can win or produce a winner of a couple prairie AA Nat'l qualifiers give me a shout!!! I need it in about 3 years.

I know they are bird dogs... but all around dogs... could they do NSTRA or will they be in another county... has a slick bred pup ever got a show point, etc... no doubt they are bird dogs though (which is all that really matters to me).Elkhunter wrote:I had a grandson of slick and my little female is slick bred and they could not be more natural bird dogs IMO.bb560m wrote:All around dog... slick is an all age dog and producer, don't know about anything else...Elkhunter wrote:I like the Slick stuff, Joker is winning about everything out here it seems and his littermate sister is winning a lot also.

Re: All around producing GSP sire? (Field Trial bred)
The ALL AROUND producing male. I'm not into the show side of it, but what male is producing pups for everyone's venue. We ALL know and AA male and AA female don't always throw AA pups. In my opinion any dog has to be a bird dog first before it can be a good trial dog. But what male is producing pups that suit everyone when bred to a decent female. Foot hunters, NASTRA, Hunt Test, Shooting Dog and AA dogs. And great companions. Not everyone can handle a high drive AA dog nor do they want something that powerful. But yet want a close running, handle like a dream type of dog for hunting.
Maybe there isn't one out there. Idk.
Thanks for all your opinions and input folks.

I dont think their is one stud dog out there that would fit all the charactoristics you are looking for. Everyone is looking for something different, Run, style, stamina, hunting ability, show, you name it. You breed for what your looking for and hopefully it is to better the breed in any venue that you participate in.

Re: All around producing GSP sire? (Field Trial bred)
It's been my experience, and I am no expert, that people will choose a bloodline of dog depending on what venue they partake in. I have been around "Slick" dogs for the better part of the last 10yrs. In what little NSTRA trialing I did, I never saw anyone else with a "Slick" bred GSP. It seemed like the shorthair NSTRA guys all had dogs out of Fancy White Trash, Fritz or some other successful NSTRA gsp line.
Because of the reputation that AA bloodlines are too much dog for the average foot hunter, I don't think these lines have been given a fair chance to compete in anything other than horseback or walking shooting dog stakes. I have trained at least 10 heavily bred Slick dogs in the last 5 yrs, and have guided hunts with all of them. Only had 1 that i could not keep 20-40 yrds in front of me when guiding. She was a littermate to the dam of Gundogs/Nebraska's Bentley dog. She had some serious go, and it was counter productive to keep her in that close. She is now fitting right in on a TX guide string.
I will probably never run a horseback stake, but my litters will always be sired by that caliber of dog and bloodline.

Who was the littermate to the Dam you couldnt keep in close as I owned the dam you speak of when I bred the litter. I also own a littermate brother to her that is an AA dog. I was trying to find out where they all were or who else had one as I got both of mine from Gulledges when they were pups.

I got mine from BDK also. I had 1st pick of the females. I think I sold her when she was a 1.5yrs old. Like I said before, serious bird dog with lots of run. She had so much drive to smell birds she would not back on her own. She had a slight underbite so I was never going to breed her. Not sure who owns her now.

I have to say our Gambles Odyssey Fritz, altho now neutered has pups that tear it up in FT's, NSTRA, UFTA, and NAVHDA....That is a big order, but I feel he has fulfilled it, my male Sam (Fritz son) is DC, MH, UT PR1 is currently on his way producing the same... Maverick (Son of Fritz,) is DC, American Field CH, SH....Fritz has produced the multiple High Point Dog in NSTRA several years in a row in N CA ,now S Ca, and his littermate in Gulf Coast Tx was 10 x CH, multiple Hi Point Dog....Not to mention Hunt Test Sire of the Year, and Show Ch's, and had 2 dogs in the running for the VC Test this year.........

How about Fritz's sire as well!snips wrote:I have to say our Gambles Odyssey Fritz, altho now neutered has pups that tear it up in FT's, NSTRA, UFTA, and NAVHDA....That is a big order, but I feel he has fulfilled it, my male Sam is DC, MH, UT PR1 is currently on his way producing the same...
Re: All around producing GSP sire? (Field Trial bred)
Thank you...I know SSM is a great producer as well..I know Fritzs record much better as far as the great NSTRA dogs and NAVHDA dogs.

Ditto for me on the grandson of slick (Ranger) and the little female (Ruby) as well. They hunt their butts off and come out of the box ready to roll.Elkhunter wrote:
I had a grandson of slick and my little female is slick bred and they could not be more natural bird dogs IMO.

Tony, give odessy kennels a look at. Also Ken might be having another litter. I got my last female from him. DC type with lots of run in them. Really tho any good shorthair will do good in any venue you wish to be in. Gotta male pup from traditions that is heck on wheels, has it all, conformation, run high prey drive and stamina that wears me out. Getting old I suppose. Gotta place close by to run em on a bunch of different birds too. Drop me a line if you get close so we can hook up and go for a walk in the field.

What about GK's nuke it?
Re: All around producing GSP sire? (Field Trial bred)
Funny that you mention Nuke, as a daughter of his owned by a friend; has HB Field Trial wins, a Senior Hunter and won a 3 point Major in the Show Ring this past weekend. My friends also own a Grand-daughter of his that is just turned 1 year old now; has HB Field Trial wins, a NAVHDA NA and was awarded Best of Opposite Sex 2 days in a row for 2 points in one win and a 3 point Major for the second win(besting a finished CH), also in the Show Ring this weekend.romeo212000 wrote:What about GK's nuke it?
I'm not big on the Show Ring, but thought it pretty cool none the less.

I'm seriously considering breeding my best female to him.
