Crate Fans
Crate Fans
I am sure that these HELP, but what I want to know is how durable they are and how long they last on the c batteries.
Has anyone used them on here? Does anyone have any other suggestions?
I bought the A.R.E topper where the windows open on the sides. I thought this would give the dogs some more air flow when we travel. But I put a wireless temp gauge in the back. Before we begun it was 85 degrees. While we rode it went up to 91 degrees. I was surprised. Now, I check on the mutts often and certainly dogs have been riding in toppers for awhile now. But I am a worrier. When I stopped to check on them, they seemed comfortable. No panting, signs of stress etc. Not sure how that could be at 90 degrees. But I would like to add a fan to their crates.
Ideas, thoughts?
This is the fan in question, just doesnt look big enough to cool a fly.

Re: Crate Fans
The fan will not help.
Re: Crate Fans
Check out Ryobi 18-Volt ONE+ 10 in. Portable Fan at Home Depot. Have been using one for several years now and it is the best fan that I have found.
Re: Crate Fans
Those fans don't do much at all to help, they are not strong enough to produce much air and the batteries go dead very quick. I use some fans at agility trials and the best ones I have found are Ryobi fans. I have the older style but I assume the new style would work the same. They can be on the pricey side but they pay for themselves after awhile. Oh and the battery and battery charger are sold separately. They are sold at Home Depot and here is the link http://www.homedepot.com/buy/appliances ... 22840.html
Re: Crate Fans
I have one of those crate fans, but like said it really doesn't move too much air. Not sure if it really does anything since I don't have a thermometer in there, but I guess there's no sense in not using it for me since I already have it.

Thank you very much.

Re: Crate Fans
I don't use the fans; I just freeze water in a two litre pop bottle and put in the crate with them; so far worked fine.
Re: Crate Fans
A fan used on boats for bilge ventilation moves a lot of air, it 's small, is 12volt and can be wired from your vehicle battery to your crate while you are driving down the road. You can use it some while the vehicle off, just be careful you don't run your vehicle cranking battery down too far.
Have also used an automotive radiator cooling fan the same way. Lots of sizes and available at your local salvage yard. Just make sure you have a shroud on it to prevent unexpected finger or nose damage.

Re: Crate Fans
Digger-
I can understand getting your fingers caught in an unshrouded fan, but for the life of me I still cant see why you could experience nose damage.
