I recently purchased a book on dog training written by Er Shelley called 20th Century Dog Training. Hardback, circa 1920. Not in great shape, but not bad. $4.00. Pretty interesting, it seems that today there are not alot of people familiar with Mr. Shelley.

Re: trainers
Herman F Smith would be one I'd like to converse with.Flaming Star would be a dog I'd like to see along with Misissippi Zev.Another fellow I met on half a dozen occasions who I really liked was a goofy funny kind of guy who said his mind in a less than politically correct kind of way,who was highly regarded as an excellent trainer,He got a nickname in the late 50's as the "pigeon magician" apparantly he was one of the first to use pigeons for training and man did he have some REALLY good tricks up his sleeve.Wish I could go to a summer camp for the whole time but he's been gone about 5 years now, Tommy Schwertfeger.

Re: trainers
I trained my first setter useing methods by Richard A. Wolters in Gun Dog and have had great luck with my many Llewellin setters, and now at 73 years im in the early stages of training a new puppy and have not in any way need to change anything, i still believe in his methods of training are best for my type of hunting, grouse and woodcock in the north east.
