Sportdog TEK 1.0 gps/e collar

I have used sport dog products for years and have always had great results. Problem is most of us already have either a garmin or a e-collar or both. My guess is that the garmin will still be a superior gps unit, so for an extra $100 I would go garmin and continue to use my sportdog ecollar. That said it sure would be nice to have an 'all in one' unit. Will be neat to see if the SD GPS stacks up to the Garmin. Any ETA?

That "bleep" Sam dog got away from me yesterday when I was working her with my pointer stud... I just got her home. A gentleman traveling thru noticed her in the ditch along the hightway. 25 MILES FROM WHERE WE DUMPED OUT!

That "bleep" Sam dog got away from me yesterday when I was working her with my pointer stud... I just got her home. A gentleman traveling thru noticed her in the ditch along the hightway. 25 MILES FROM WHERE WE DUMPED OUT!

We've got some work to do on this range issue.

U are in way over your head with these dogs....find someone more capable of handling them before the dogs get killed....

Jess has only had the dog for a little while and I know he is more than capable of handling it just an older dog that needs to adjust to his style of handling and hunting.

That's your opinion. I've lost 1 dog in my entire life afield. This was it. The other dog was my friends dog. Who are you to judge me? I made a mistake by letting her open up a bit too much. I dang sure won't make that mistake again. But, I don't owe you anything, Dang sure not an explanation. Take your assinine comments and choke on em.

Regarding the TEK 1.0, it can't be used in trials, so I think I will stick with my Garmin and my DT. I wonder if The Field and AKC will accept this one.

I had an Upland 1850 and unloaded it because of the numbers rubbing off the dial. I didn't have any other issue with it. The rep tells me that is fixed now. I like the company. They do a lot of educational promotions and have a conservation grant program.

Back to the original post, I think that any sort of competition for Garmin is a good thing.

Dude, I'd love to. However I know ABSOLUTELY ZERO about handling a dog in a FT, how a FT runs, rules or anything else. I have given a few seconds of thought to having someone run her though. Heck Idunno.

I conversed with the Kevin Lee the director of sales and marketing for SportDOG today about this product. They are really excited as I know alot of us are. They have finished field testing this past fall, and will begin shipping the units in July.

I think that another GPS unit on the market is going to be great from a consumer standpoint but I would have my doubts about a product produced(if they do produce them) by a company that does not have a long track record with GPS.

Yeah, I understand what your saying. Good point. However, would you feel more secure if and when Garmin introduces a ecollar? They have no track record with E-Collars whatsoever. I guess its a consumer gamble.

My question, which he said had not been addressed in intercompany literature or their recent training seminar, was whether they will be applying for acceptance of the TEK 1.0 by AKC or The Field for use in trials. I myself would be surprised if they allow a combo unit to be used during a trial. It appears that this unit was designed to target the hunter rather than someone that trials or does both so a trialer would still have to have a separate tracking unit.

Update on news from SportDog. Gary called me, but I missed the call. I'll get back to him tomorrow. He said because the correction unit detaches, it will be able to be used in AKC and Field events, but UKC won't accept it. I can't find anything in AKC or The Field about accepting the new unit, so I wonder if SportDog has even submitted it.
