AA Nat'l CH
Does anyone plan on making to the Ames Plantation for the AA National Championship? It starts Feb. 8th.
Also, i saw where Erin's Tin Soldier was nominated, but was withdrawn due to injury. Anyone know what happened to him?

Re: AA Nat'l CH
Not sure why he was removed, it might be because of a torn ligament he had surgery on last year.
Re: AA Nat'l CH
I've been to THE National Championship at Ames twice- in 2000 & again in 2001.
While I don't think I have it in me to personally handle dogs with that kind of get up & GO,
I can honestly say it was a spectacular event to attend and ride in the Gallery- as the caliber
of dogs assembled on that property for one week is o-u-t-s-t-a-n-d-i-n-g!
Bring a real strong pair of binoculars!! Very nice people there at Ames also........
If you have a chance to get down there- by all means...... GO!

Re: AA Nat'l CH
Is that the same thing that put Erin's Southern Justice out of commission? I mean was it a torn ligament that ended Southern Justice's career?

Re: AA Nat'l CH
Not sure about the injury to Justice, but wasn't he entered into the Birddog HOF
in 2007 or 2008? I liked the big liver patch behind his left shoulder- sitting there
all by it's lonesome as the rest of the left flank was all white. Very cool.......

Re: AA Nat'l CH
Erins Southern Justice was inducted into the Field trial Hall of Fame in 2007. Not sure what ended his trial career. He was only 6 when he was R-U at the Region 5 Amateur Shooting dog Ch in 2001. I do not know if he ever ran after that.
Re: AA Nat'l CH
I go every year.
If you do not ride, you can still see an amazing amount from the car gallery. You can hook up with a buddy of mine who films some of the action from the road, Ken Blackman will be in a black Suburban.
If you come down, do so the weekend before for the Hall of Fame and the presentation of Ross Young's painting.

Re: AA Nat'l CH
Neil and Ken are a couple of good guys. They may have a funny choice for bird dogs but don't hold that against them
The group of guys that are lucky enough to live in Western Tennessee are in a great area for trials and they do put on a couple of good trials themselves. If you get a chance to get down that way, you could really learn a lot.

Oh yea, he's a had a good run that's for sure. I don't think Sean will have a dog in the national this year....I'm sure he'll be back strong next year.Birddog3412 wrote:Thats a bad deal, but most would be happy to have a dog with his accomplishments.lvrgsp wrote:Tin Soldier blew out his other tendon.....not looking good for his career here on out.

I try to go to the Nat'l about every year now. I try to make it for at least one day, which is about all i can take off of work to get to. I may try to go two days this year. I want to wait and see how they draw out to see what days i make it. I was just curious if there were others that were going this year.
I live in West TN, so it only takes me about an hour to get there at most.
Thanks Neil, yeah, I have a friend who knows Ken. A buddy of mine named Josh Byrd has a couple of Brits. He may even have one you bred. I'm not sure what exact bloodline they are.
But, if i go to Ames, i'll be riding. Thanks though.
That's bad news. I am almost positive that some type of injury like this ended Southern Justice's career as well. I dont' think Southern Justice was all that old when it happened to him either.Tin Soldier blew out his other tendon.....not looking good for his career here on out

He might of been young on paper, but there is a good chance he was older than published.BrettBryan wrote:Lvrgsp wrote,That's bad news. Elhewpointer,
Ha! I guess you could be correct. I don't know how old he was or even what type of injury he sustained to end his career. I was wondering if it was something similar that happened to Erin's Tin Soldier.

Yea I believe it was something similiar Brett, I do not think he ran after the spring 2001 trial season.

No I don't think it's common within the lines, I think it has more to do with the dogs and the rigors of competing at a very high level.Elkhunter wrote:Is that common in those lines Sean runs?

It's not a "line" issue IMO. Sean is one of the great Pointer breeders right now producing quality animals. We've been competing head-to-head against several of Erin's derbies all season and they are tough to beat. Really good stuff.

Re: AA Nat'l CH
Erin's Southern Bo died at a very young age (on paper) as did his father. FWIW
Re: AA Nat'l CH
Well that is part of the information we are trying to ferret out working these dogs - which ones can hold up to the rigors of the job they're asked to do. Physicial problems show up pretty fast out in our country if a dog gets put to a decent test.I think it has more to do with the dogs and the rigors of competing at a very high level.

Re: AA Nat'l CH
Chip,
No word yet, but yeah, we got hit with some ice on Friday. We had a few inches of mainly ice mixed with a little snow. It started melting yesterday and should really melt today as it's supposed to get to 43 today.
It will probably be a sloppy mess up there when they start. That mud seems to really wear on a dog in a 3 hr. stake. Usually takes a tough dog to win it, this year should prove no different.
I'll let you know if i hear on the cover though.

Ross,
I meant pulling for Doug Arthur when i said him.
Yeah, that's her. She was in the Callback down in FL last week too. She didn't win it though.
Nice dog. I hope to see her go if she draws a decent day.

Up,
He moved to the AA circuit 2 years ago. He could be a dog to watch out for. He has been running well of late. Won some trials and always seems to be in it. I know he made the Florida call-back and the Continental also.

Wow............ just checked the 10 day forecast for Grand Junction- not lookin'
too good until Saturday when the temps will actually make it well into the 40's.
Rain and/or temps a little above freezing between now & Friday.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say the winner will come from a brace that is run
on Saturday through the end of the Championship next week.
Here's a link to the forecast:

They are more than likely shaved down..
Re: AA Nat'l CH
Mud and snow actually hurts the shags some, even though they are all shaved, most leave a good bit of hair on the those beautiful tails, and three hours of trying to carry it up when it weighs an additional 20 pounds is tough.
We got 5+ inches of snow, but then the temp went above freezing and we got some rain, so it is down to about an inch and I can even see some bare ground.
They may be able to start Wednesday, but I doubt they will run today.
