Do you have any specific questions about the breed? Summing up the GLP in one post would be like trying to sum up the GSP or GWP in one post. Someday I'll have to write a book on them, but hopefully the following will start you off for now

The average longhair is a talented versatile dog with a calm, cooperative temperament. They are owned and bred by hunters for hunters. German Longhaired Pointers are all bred to a standard that each kennel must adhere to. This results in consistency regardless of which breeder you select. The German Longhaired Pointer Club of North America (GLPCNA) website can provide you with some information. Check it out at http://www.GermanLonghairs.org.

There are a growing number of longhairs in the country each year and there are at least a couple in most of the midwestern and western states right now. And there are a few on the east coast as well. More longhairs are being imported all the time and we should have a record number of litters produced in the United States this year. The best thing you can do if you are interested in a longhair is to visit one near you and see it work in the field. Longhairs have done very well in NAVHDA (North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association) and the JGHV. And in December, we saw our first UFTA Amateur Champion crowned. I think GLPs are a breed with a very promising future.

I guess I might as well throw in a few photos to illustrate the breed. This first picture is a photo of a 9-month old pup from last year's litter. She was pointing by 10 weeks of age and retrieved her first duck at 11 weeks of age. And you won't meet a sweeter dog in any breed anywhere.


Here is a photo of her 55lb mom showing off retrieving ability by bringing me back a Giant Canada.


This is a photo of our current 3 longhairs doing some retrieving work in a half-frozen lake last weekend. The cold water didn't phase them a bit.


And we definitely cannot forget the whole temperament thing. This next photo was taken a couple weeks ago of our 3 longhairs. I was working in the computer room and I was a bit surprised that none of the dogs were laying underfoot so I walked out into the living room to check on them and was able to snap this photo before they woke up.


And this is what happens when you wake 3 longhairs up from a nap and sit down to take more photos of them...

Thank you for the pictures. Having never seen a German Longhaired Pointer in the flesh, I was quite curious as to their appearance.

Handsome, well built dogs...with tails too.

GLP's also come in variations of this color. Some have more brown, some more white and some have a blended color that adds great dimension to their coat.

Not high and straight like an EP. More like a setter. My Moses is a Large Munsterlander, which is nearly the same dog but black and white, his tail is usually up where you can see it when he's running and then flatten out when he's on point.
Cora's the one who hunts behind them she'd know best!

It has been brought to my attention that my photos in my first post may be a little misleading. All 3 of my current longhairs are brown in color, but as Denmoor said, they come in a few different variations of brown. The majority of the head must be brown (a blaze or snip is allowed) but the rest of the body can be solid white, lightly ticked, heavily ticked, solid brown, or any variation in between. Below are a few more color examples:
