Funnel or bobs for pigeon trap?

Post by nels2413 » Sun Mar 29, 2015 12:51 pm

I'm looking at building my first pigeon trap, I've always netted them at night but I have a few new prospective places where that isn't an option. I'm trying to decide if I want to put a funnel or door with bobs on it. I'm leaning towards a funnel right now. Any advice as to what you have had more success with? If i do a funnel, about how big should I make the opening? Thanks for any advice.

I personally think bobs would be the way to go...most commercial traps have bobs...I watched a guy once down at the levy in Davenport. He made a box the size of a suitcase...it was wire...he sat on a bench and had popcorn in the box. He had a stick to prop open the lid. He had 20 or so birds in the box feeding and he just kicked the stick to close the lid. Walked away. I thought that was pretty clever.
