Considering Quail

Post by Jidano3 » Fri Feb 27, 2015 7:13 am

Just finished my new pigeon loft and had enough materials left over to possibly build something to house quail. A few questions again for you bird savvy folks out there.

1. If I don't typically hunt quail ( there really isn't any in my part of Pennsylvania), is it beneficial to have them for training? I know they will return to pen like pigeons?
2. Are they hard to maintain if I decide to purchase some?
3. I have plenty of land (habitat) for training, will they tend to just populate outside the pen after awhile? I understand hawks and predators will play a role in survival.

Thanks for you input.

Look up information on Johnny houses and exactly how they work. I would recommend putting a couple of johnny houses around the area where you work dogs. There are several videos on youtube about building johnny houses.
