I have to admit it was getting old buying 50-60 dollars in grain a month from my homers.
So I got to thinking about when I was a kid , we were very poor and I couldn't afford much of anything
I would go around to the old barns on my bike and climb up in rafters and get the squabs right before they could fly.
Then I would put them in my coop as log as I kept water and a safe place to roost they stayed and traveled where ever they needed to for feed.
So recently I down sized my big coop and built enough nest boxs for the breeding pairs and let them fly.
They are still producing more birds then I can use and at no feed cost and they are never low on grit. Lol
