(Not So) Sweet Iced Tea

Post by Greg Jennings » Tue Nov 08, 2011 1:02 pm

Friend asked me to post this.

Not So Sweet Iced Tea

Ingredients
1. 4 Luzianne family sized bags. Only Luzianne will do.
2. Sauce pan of water
3. 3/4 to 1 cup sugar
4. Juice of 1 lemon
5. Gallon of water minus the volume of the sauce pan

Preparation
1. Fill sauce pan with water.
2. On stove on low. Warm the water. Do NOT boil. Very important! Think low and slow like BBQ.
3. Steep tea bags in water till color is right. Should take 15 or so minutes.
4. Put sugar and lemon in pitcher. Do not put in cold water yet.
5. When tea has steeped, add to pitcher. Mix till sugar disolved.
6. Top off with cold water and refrigerate.

For a change, you can make this with Luzianne Green Tea, cut the sugar and replace with a tad of honey.

Greg,
You live in Ohio now, which puts you north of the Mason-Dixon line. Therefore, this recipe for sweet tea is null and void.

Heh. I might live in Ohio, but "Sweet Tea" is still one word at my house. ;)

BTW, for the anal retentive, I live at approx 39 deg 33 min of latitude. The Mason-Dixon line is 39 deg 43 min. So, technically, I'm still south of it.

There's nothing like a cold glass of sweet tea!! And then you travel north and they don't know how to make good tea....yikes! I make my own in my motel room with the coffee maker and a pitcher, but that doesn't help when you eat out

Gee I have a pitcher of great tea in the fridg all of the time. Make a new pratically everyday but I never order tea when I go south as you can't find any with out sugar added and I want something to quench my thirst and not just another drink that adds little except calories to the meal. I have always wondered how that got started.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

My hubby drinks tea that he puts artificial sweetener in. I go thru a gallon or so while he is drinking his unsweet...lol. I just pretend my sweet tea is good for me...better to melt the sugar in it while still hot and it's good all the time! Funny how tea is made different in different places :D
