What's in my bag - Dog Box!

Post by grant » Sat Jul 25, 2009 10:28 pm

The days of wire crates in the truck are over! I've finally decided on a dog box - a Diamond Delux two dog box!

I wanted a box that was durable, looked nice, light weight, and had storage compartments. Its very roomy for the dogs, and the doors and storage compartments lock, which is nice to have when I need to run into a store to pick up some gear. (Someone can't hijack my pups) Since all of my gear is stored in the box, all I have to do is load the dogs and head down the road.

I love it!

Randy

So far, so GOOD! I took the pups out this evening and ran them for a bit! I had two training bags, but now I just toss everything in the storage area that locks... :-)

No offense, but while it looks like a great storage compartment for gear, I don't see how it can have enough ventilation or stay cool enough for the dogs.

One of my boxes is very similar, I have yet to have any trouble with keeping dogs cool, even when it is really hot.

Hey SubMariner,

None taken. Diamond Deluxe has some of the largest vents in boxes at 10.5"x14". I had a chance to get the summer box, but I chose the D-Style, so that I could keep the dogs warm in the winter months.

Here's a picture of their summer box that would work better for you in FL. Hope this helps!

Luke, you need a new dog box or more duct tape(kidding) .Grant, i have a box similar to yours. Had it for 18 years now and it still looks good.Mine has big vents also.I keep everything in my storage from shell, collars, leads, food, extra boots,first-aid kit and gun cleaning kit.i spent 500 for it.Best $$$ ever spent.

Just wanted to say I packed up my pups in the Diamond Deluxe and hauled my 4-wheeler down to south ga. (Tifton) on new years for some deer hunting and dog time. I closed off the vents, added some wood chips, and the dogs kept warm in cold weather! I've really enjoyed my box, and if you're still hauling your dogs around in crates (or in the back seat) you should really think about getting a box... It's worth it..

Oh, and a Lonewolf stand folds up and fits nicely in the box... :-)

i have the same box as grant does ,but mine has a fan on it .
it surprises everyone how cool it stays in the hot weather.
mine is for sale ,i am switching 2 a crossover box.
only because my hunting buddy has been driving to my home .
then we take my truck to the woods
i have 4 dogs he has 2 & theres no room in the bed of my truck for the generator.
so i have been leaving the gen. inside the camper.

Nice box, I have a similar one.

If you want it to be cool in the summer and warm in the winter, go to a hardware store and buy some corrugated plastic sheeting (3/8") and cut it to fit the walls and top. Then get yourself some rubber cattle mat for the bottom and the dogs will have a nice soft ride.

I also bought a similar sized garage/outdoor carpet mat and layed it in the storage area.

I could or post pics if you want.

Also...on hot days, make sure you keep the storage closed when the dogs are in the box or the heat/sun will beat down directly on them.
