Thinking about the horse hauling thread, I thought I might add a diferent tip each week from basically a farriers viewpoint, maybe just some ideas that may or not be useful to some, feel free to add anything to it so everyone can pick up a thing or two, cuz no matter what none of us are to old to learn a few tricks!


1: We have found that shoeing horses that have to spend a great deal of time being hauled long distances that if we use Equipak (pour in hoof pad) the clients horses are never uncomfortable from long hauls. A horses foot is made to need some sort of frog pressure this is easily obtained from the natural ground, but when standing in a trailer all day and night on matts they have none if there is not a ample amount of shavings. The Equipak can be poured into a clean hoof level to the shoe to ground surface and give the horse the ample support he need for a long trailer haul. It can be simply removed when they arrive.
