Purchase Order

Post by sweetsong » Sat Jan 03, 2009 9:59 am

My wife and I are looking into getting a horse or two for field trialing and pleasure riding. Currently we have the acres but do not have a trailer or a truck to pull the trailer. At the present time I can not afford to buy all three items (horse, trailer, truck) at once. What would you get first, second & third?

Thanks

If you have access to a trailer and truck, then I would get and enjoy the horse. I mean if you have a neighbor, friend, relative that has an outfit you could borrow to get a horse to a vet in an emergency.

Yes, most vets make house calls, but there are some serious situations that could possibly arise where a vet would want to keep your horse at his office.....or you may want to take a sick horse to the vets for the constant supervision he can provide.....or you may need to travel to a specialist for a concern. Most horses are never going to have a problem, and I haven't had to use my horsetrailer for years for that purpose, but think you should at least have access if you need it. Denise

If you have a place to ride and enjoy trail riding then I would get the horse first. That way you can get use to each other and not have as many problems when you start to take him to trials. If riding is not a big thing then I would get.
1. Truck, you can use it for other things while you get money for horse and trailer.Wouldn't help to have a trailer and horse with not means to move them.
2. Horse, it may take a long time to find a good one, maybe you will also accumulate the money for a trailer while you look for the horse.
3. Trailer last because you may be able to rent or borrow one after you buy horse .Trailer should be easiest to find, and you can find them in many price ranges and condition.
