Here he is!

Post by EddieF » Fri Dec 05, 2008 5:44 pm

Not a done deal yet, but I finally got across the street to snap some pictures before it got dark. This might be my new friend. I think he has a really sweet face. And, he really does seem to like me or at least feel comfortable around me. My wife is going to ride him this weekend and make sure he's not crazy or anything, but I hope it works out because I really like him...

(the butt picture is in there because I thought the stripe on his back was cool!)

Thanks, Ray! He does seem really sweet. I hope it works out, it'd be kinda neat to see him right across the street and know he's my boy.

Hey we just were over there with the farrier getting everyone's feet done, and I came up with a name (his name is Punky and I want to change it). So his new name is Buck! (I hope he doesn't use it as a verb!)

You will do fine. Just relax! Is that horse registered? If so let me know and I will give you some insight on his bloodlines. If he is foundation appaloosa he may have the "Indian Shuffle"- google that- and if so he will be VERY comfortable to ride kind of like a TWH.

Nice of you to remember! :)

I think it went well, and so did my wife, who is an accomplished English rider but unfamiliar with western tack and stuff. She thought I would be really tense and said that I looked pretty relaxed.

The guy started me at the beginning, cleaning the horse's feet and putting on the saddle and everything. He took things slowly and probably next time will ask me to do it on my own. Then I got on him (the lesson was on a horse named Apache, who is used for anything from lessons from fat clods who have basically never been on a horse like myself, but is also a roping horse who is fully capable of moving out, depending on who is on him).

Anyway, this horse did everything exactly as he is supposed to. Neck reining left, right, forward with a 'click', bring the reins back and he slows and stops, back further and he backs up. While I was trying to get comfortable, we were talking - the instructor, my wife and I - about my horse, Buck. We are thinking about bringing him in to this guy for a month of training so he can learn this type of riding (he as been ridden English before this). Then I can take lessons through the winter, put him in training for February, and then we both should be ready to hit the trails in the Spring! Sounds good on paper, anyway.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.... and I didn't do anymore browsing.

I don't know if there is a way to restrict a page, and only allow what you post. I just clicked on your video.
Cheers,
Gary

There probably is a way to restrict, but anything embarrassing on there I have probably made public anyway. Most likely people will just wonder what kind of person takes so many pictures of dogs, horses, snakes, lizards, guns and female bartenders. :D
