Best horse trailer for the money

Post by daddyfid » Wed Jul 23, 2008 1:58 pm

I am looking to buy a 2 horse slant bumper pull trailer. What trailer company gives its comsumers the best bang for its buck? Just wanting a basic trailer, nothing fancy.

Considered used? Lots of used trailers available on the net...

Check local "Traders Magazines" as well.

I just picked up an '85 Trail-et, 4 horse slant gooseneck, with dressing room and bunk, center tack and a hay loft in very good condition for a song. More trailer than I actually need, but I got it for less than half the price a newer 2 horse straight load bumper pull would cost. Fella was getting out of horses and liquidating all his equipment.

I think Travalong makes a pretty nice 2 horse slant load for the money.

We've been pulling 4 Star trailers for years and their awesome trailers and great builders. You can get these through Trailer World as well. Sundowner, Featherlite, Exiss, Elite are all great trailers as well. If your talking top top top of the line and have lots of money Bloomers are the Elite of Elite. Good old WW always were great trailers, I had a couple bumper pulls before meeting Keith and they held up well too.

Good luck

The best trailer type, for the money, for a field trialer, is, I think, a modified stock trailer.

The open back allows you to carry your hoses(s) by just tying them off tto the uprights or rings and when you ar not hauling horses, the open back can be use to carry hay, a quad...lots of stuff. you can "customize" the front area with dog boxes, tack hangers, hay and feed storage...whatever you need.

A gooseneck setup can provide a good place for a sleeping and an electric or propane water heater and some plumbing can get you a cowboy shower for overnight stays, saving you a ton of money on motels.

There are lots of good trailers out there. My only recommendation is to go bigger than a 2-horse. Assuming you have just one horse, you will eventually get another, and possibly a third. Mine is an open straight load that I can adjust from 2-4 horses. Or a 4-wheeler, hauling hay, furniture, etc. Even if you never get more horses, you will easily fill the extra space with dogs, equipment, etc.
