fatboy straps?????

Any of y'all used a fat boy strap? I have one mare who is oddly built and I find that no matter how tight I get the saddle I tend to find the saddle slipping as I pull my self over. It doesn't matter if i grab the mane or the saddle to get on. I was looking at a catalog the other day and saw these "fatboy" straps that go from the saddle to the girth on the off side to hold the saddle in place, and I was curious if any of y'all were using them?

I had a horse would hold its breath while saddleing, then the ting wuld slide all over the place, so I slowed down. Waited till he let it out then pulled the strap tite. had to out smart his butt. Havent seen fat straps, do you have a link to a site I could look at them?

Yeah this mare will also hold her breath, so i will tighten her down, then walk her a few feet to where im gona jump on and finish tightning the girth, but I think more of it has to do with her build, high peaked back, and high withers. doesnt seem to matter what saddle I use either.

The strap hooks to a d-ring on the girth to a d on the off side of the saddle and prevents the saddle from rolling.

Ray does excellent work and everything I've ordered from him is well made and heavy duty. He stands behinds his products and has gone out of his way with great customer service. He's totally blind and supports himself by making tack and dog products.

My horse is wide barreled and slab-backed and the fatboy strap helps. Worth the $$ for sure.

In all seriousness this little paso mare is the only one on the place (of 17) that I have any trouble with the saddle rolling when i go over. I dont know if its cause she doesn't have much top line, or what but to keep the saddle from slipping I have to tighten it to a point I'm not overly comfortable with.

I see now, it is a helper not a replacement. Glad it works well for you. Watched the video, was cool. Paso is a smaller breed? I rode thoroughbreds. Best horse around IMHO

Jim, something else to consider is saddle fit. My Tucker was leaving my horse sore and I asked Matt Haggis to check him out. Matt told me that if the saddle is too narrow ( our problem with the Tucker) it'll roll; also if it's too wide it'll roll. You should be able to plop the saddle on horse's back and if it's a good fit there will be a sweet spot where it'll not roll sideways or slide up or back when you wiggle it.

My Haggis saddle is custom for my horse which is a barrel horse literally LOL If not for my excess -ahem - ballast, and lack of leg strength, a strap wouldn't be necessary. But as things are, it really works well

Been using them for 15 years with great results. I really do not understand the physics of it, but it is aptly named. Had they known about them, my horses would have sold some of their daily feed and bought one.

I use a Weaver Air Cinch and haven't had any slipping problems since doing so..
