Northwest Iowa
Is anyone in NW Iowa? I'll be visiting my inlaws in Humboldt/Bode/Stormlake over the Christmas break and was wondering how many lutfisk and lefse eaters are on this board.

lefse & lutfisk
Hi Ruark, I'm Bill from Kentucky.......gotta ask as no one else will. What is lutfisk and lefse??....Hope you ain't messing with my head. I might regret asking you that question. Also can you tell me what the daily limit is on upland birds.
Thanks
Thanks
lefse
Thanks Bird, The lefse sounds very good .....the lutfisk iffy. I was scanning the meat market products and was impressed. I have not seen ring bologna in years. As a czech, I was raised on garlic ring bologna. Do you get your meats from them often? if so what do you recommend?
Thanks Bill
ps. the link for the bakery will be bad for my diet...oh well..next year.

Lefse is great by the way! Put some butter and a little sugar on it and chow down. Lutfisk is a nasty plate of glop that Norwegians consider food. Imagine catching a nice Cod and then dehydrating it and preserving it in lye. You now have a dry fish that has the consistency of a 2x4 (I’m not kidding). They used to ship it over from the old country in wooden barrels. After you've picked your favorite "wooden fish," you take it home and begin the process of soaking the lye out of the 2x4. Once that is finished, boil the sucker and then serve with the most tasteless cream sauce you can imagine. When they started cooking it last year we were outside and could literally smell it through the walls of the house.
I think it is used as more of a "son-in-law-new-to-the-family" right of passage and as a form of fraternity hazing now adays.

Lutefisk was actually created by the Danes. The plan was to put the lutefisk in the Norwegians caves. Ultimately poisoning them with this lye soaked rotten fish. But there plan back fired and the Norwegians thrived on this stufforiginal mngsp wrote:I've heard it described as fish pudding. Doesn't that sound appetizing? What is lutfisk
I am originally from Story City, Iowa, a known Norwegian community, so I have had my experiences with lutefisk. (YUK)
You forgot to mention kumla, another fine Norwegian delicacy
The lefse is great as well as krumkake, and rosettes.
