I'm a 29 year old father of one and one in the oven from CT. I picked up a german shorthair about 8 years ago and stumbled through the training myself. Although his training and in turn his performance was mediocre at best I loved that dog and I've been hooked since. Unfortunately, I lost him in December to bone cancer and a battle of a bloat so I'm starting over with a new pup. I picked up a 5 month old english setter shortly after the loss of my gsp and have started the training process. Living in CT presents some challenges to the dog trainer so I'd enjoy very much connecting with other members that may be from the area. I think I have a good dog in my setter but there is much to accomplish before the fall.

Anyway, I'm excited to become a part of the forum and I appreciate all I've learned already.

Welcome to the forum. I lost my last dog to bone cancer too. That was a rough one. Glad you are back on the horse with a new project. Training a pup is a lot of work, but it really is fun and rewarding. This is a great place to come for info (and entertainment). I wish you the best with your pup.

Welcome to the club CT, I hate to hear about your GSP. I've have a 3 year old now and one about 25 years ago. Greatest breed in the world IMO. So I'm guessing that your grouse hunt with the English? I've heard the bird numbers are good there? I live in KY but am a native to PA.
Go Irish or Go Home, Take a child hunting and you will never have to hunt for him!

Thanks for the responses. Wild bird numbers in CT are low, with woodcock being the most common. The state has an average pheasant stocking program as well. I have family with a few hundred acres in upstate NY so I plan on taking a few trips up there with the new pup.
