Hunt Vests?

Well it's time for a new Hunting Vest. I need something that will carry a load in comfort for 3 to 6 hours (lots of water for two dogs and myself, six chukar, lunch, jacket, a box of shells, camera, GPS, first aid, Tri-Tronics, etc). I have been looking at the strap vest such as the Quilomene. My co...

Re: Double Barrel Shotguns

Does anyone know of a shotgun other than Merkel that the ejectors/extractors can be set for one or the other?

In other words you can set it for ejectors or extractors.

I also hate automatic safetys!!!

Re: Double Barrel Shotguns

To me it simply depends on the type of birds I am hunting.

OU for phesants and sage grouse.

Auto loader for quail and chukar.

Why? When hunting chukar and quail I always seem to have the action open reloading, when the late risers take to the sky when using the OU.

I grew up hunting pheasants.

I think if you voted pheasant you have never hunted Chukar:-)=

Re: Sporting Dog First Aid Kit

Hemostats are always clipped to my hunting vest and vet wrap in a pocket close by. I also keep a bunch more first aid stuff in the truck. I think "Prepared" first aid kits for humans or dogs are a waste of funds. I am NOLS trained in first aid and can tell you that hydrogen peroxide should not be us...

Re: Where to buy an Astro

M1Tanker

First of all thank you for your Service.

There seems to be a lot of rip-off folks on Ebay.

If the list price for the Astro is $599 you should be able to buy it for $500 online or an 800 number using a credit card.

Best wishes

Re: To ship or not to ship???

Well from experence I can tell you out of all the test etc there was NOTHING more reliable than the nose of my Breed Champion Lab. I've had bitches shipped, deliever and dropped off from folks with much more experenced than me in the dog breeding business. They have all been wrong a number of times....

Nature of the beast.

She just wants to be with you or part of the activity.

Trade her in for a dog that doesn't care.

Re: WALKER'S GAME EAR???

I don't believe these devices are worth a darn upland hunting. To much noise from your foot steps, breathing etc. Not very comfortable either. They would be great in a tree stand. Did not like it and sold it to a guy that was almost deft. Wear it in the ear closest to the gun. Now with all that said...

Re: Picking out an over/under shotgun

You can not beat the semi-auto on quail and chukar. When using the OU on these birds I always find myself with the action open just as a few more birds flush. I do however use an OU on pheasent and sage grouse. In picking an OU if you stay with a Browning, Beretta or Benelli you will be happy. All t...

What size shot do you prefer for Chukar?

What choke are you using with your prefered shot size?

Thanks!

How old are your dogs and how long will they be with the Trainer?

I take my GSP to the Trainers next weekend for one month of training.

Re: What is the best style of choke to use

Different cokes for different birds and different shot size. Early when birds are holding tight open chokes. Later in the season when birds are busting wild tighen up on chokes. I would start at Sheet and Imp. Just think I hunt with only one barrel and have a more difficult choice;-)= You didn't say...

Dogs, Birds, Bells & Javelina

An AZ Fish and Game Warden told us that it was a good idea to bell our dogs when hunting in areas that may have Javelina present, because the Javelina might gang up on a dog and try to kill it because they hate coyotes. The bells would warn the Javelina before the dogs run over them; therefore no co...

Re: questions about hunting WY

I hunt Wyoming every year and think late November is very late.

Blue grouse can be hunted with a .22. When they flush they simple fly up in a tree.

Lots of times you will see them up close walking across the forest floor like a chicken.

Best wishes.

Riverside is a real armpit

SMOG - SMOG and more SMOG.

What hunting there was.....was many years ago.

You will need a days a travel to find any birds.

Sorry that's just the way I see it.

My guess would be if birds are flushing your dog will not mind the gun fire.

I suggest you bring down the first bird flushed and all other concerns will be forgotten:-)=

Prairie,

Just to be certain:

You put the Vet Wrap on and then the boots and then the tape?

The bicycle intertube idea is also a great idea.

Thanks to all.

Three sides of my property are fenced with the type of horse fencing you want to use, so I can tell you how to stretch it properly. Get two each 2X4's. Cut them a few inches longer than the fencing is tall. Drill three holes evenly spaced in each 2X4 large enough for 3/8 inch bolts. The bolts need t...

Boots 4 GSP?

I will be hunting Chukar with a young GSP this winter. The terrain is very rough with lava rock. Although my other dog (Reba the Cattle Dog) does not require foot protection she (flush & retrieve) does not cover the territory like this GSP. Our property allows our dogs to run all day so their feet a...
