Re: Decline of Field Trials
It's been my recent experience that, at least with the breed clubs in my general vicinity, are all about power & control, and the dogs are a VERY distant third in the list of priorities (if the dogs are even on the radar). I've had it, to be honest. The club politics, the power struggles, the recrui...

Susquehanna Brittany Club Trial March 1st
The trial is cancelled. I got an email this morning saying there is still a foot of snow on the grounds and parking lot and with temps dropping again this week, the grounds won't be safe.
Hard to get excited about trialing when temps are down in the single digits at night still. Come on spring!!!

JKP, I can give you the name of a judge who will leave your dog down if a bird goes up on relocate. You have to be friends with him, but he'll leave your dog down (I don't waste entry fees to run under him anymore).

Re: PVC for ATV Roading Rig
I use PVC to road my Brittany...but she's probably 28 lbs soaking wet. So far, so good. I keep a check cord on the bike just in case I need it. Our paths are too narrow to road a dog next to the bike, so the pole sticks out in front of the ATV far enough so that if she stops, I can't run her over, b...

Re: Field Trial Question - Commands allowed?
If the dog stands there, high head, high tail and as intense as ever and the word "whoa" doesn't put any visible pressure on the dog, I really don't care what the handler does or says while flushing. A dog that wants to break will let down, it's tail will tick or drop, his head will move around....y...

Denny's Trailer Sales (Wykoff, MN) & Coughlin Auto (LondonOH
We just returned from Wykoff, MN from purchasing our new LQ horse trailer and I HIGHLY recommend anyone in the market for a horse trailer to look at Denny's. They are absolutely worth the trip. I had the poor sales guy (Sean) measuring anything and everything that could be measured (ground clearance...

Re: Trailer modification - rear tack in stock trailer??
Picked the new trailer up today!! No modifications necessary! The dealer had the good sense to order the trailer with the swing wall 4 feet from the mid-tack, which leaves a 10 foot box for horses (plenty of room for 3 horses). So we have an extra 4 foot storage area with a walk through door from th...

Re: Trailer modification - rear tack in stock trailer??
We've purchased "just enough" in the past, thinking we'd never need more, then outgrown it in a couple years, so we decided to not make that mistake again, and many of the pros have gone to stock trailers. I think, long term, it'll be more versatile. We should have room for a dozen dogs and 5 horses...

Has anyone added a saddle rack to the back of a stock trailer? We bought a new trailer (we pick it up in a week...woo hoo!!), that has an 8' x 14' stock area. As far as I'm concerned, the dam's owner is TRYING to do the right thing. Take the stud fee, let the pups be registered, and be done with it. It was an accident. Yes, you have to give them a way out. But I've also read that the mortality rate in puppies is much less with the whelping nest than with a heat lamp. Everyone with one swears it's worth the $250, especially if you plan to have more than 1-2 litters.
