It's one thing for somebody to run their mouth on what THEY would have done, but it's cat of an entirely different color when they have to make the case to the judging partner to fail the dog.
I'm with original mngsp on this one.

Rodger, I see no use for the Garmin Astro in judging of FT dogs. None. I judge what I see, not what I don't. So the Astro tells me the dog went here, there, and there. Does it tell me if the dog was hunting the cover on the correct side considering the wind? No, because the cover/edge doesn't appear...

Doug, You hit on something. The size and weight is what may turn out to be problematic for AKC, AFTCA. Handlers that have Marshall, which I use, or Wildlife Materials receivers stick out like a sore thumb when they use them. Trackers quite a bit less so, in fact I think if the judges ride back a bit...

There is no better system for keeping track of or finding your daog then Garmins's new Astro. We got to do beta testing for it and all others are obsolete now. Shady, No, the "others" are not obsolete. Until AKC and AFTCA accept the GPS technology, people will still have a use for telemetry. ie; Tr...

John, I haven't been following this closely, but part of the issue could be the significant infrastruction at Killdeer, ie: clubhouse, barn. Those items cost money to maintain, and even with the ransom collected by the State there, it still costs bundle to hold a FT there. Now subtract any funds use...

Did you get the dog from Black Suade?wiredducker wrote:Thanks for all of the advice. She is out of Sir Lancelot (Pal Joey).
The only reason I ask, is that I keep Gordon pedigree's...maybe 20,000 of them.

How is the dog bred? It's not uncommon for some of the "field bred Gordon" lines to flag. And can you share the "how" the dog gets onto the bird? Meaning, do you allow the dog to road in on the bird? Perhaps the bird doesn't act wild enough...so maybe some pigeons, or quail, in remote traps can solv...
