you can teach a pup a lot as soon as you get the dog home first thing i would teach the pup is name ever time you want to get the dogs att call by name call the dog to you name first then come or hear what ever word you want to use .. when you feed the dog make him stand back untill told to eat ..yo...

of course a dog can learn all of this there smart you can even teach them differant things at the same time but you can confuss a dog with to much or trying to go to fast if you want to teach the dog to sit i see nothing wrong with that its your dog

when you teach your dog to sit and the dog sits you praise the dog with a pat and good dog then when the dog dont comply with a command in training it gets some form of diss. most times its from a ecollar the dog dont like being stim. with the collar so it dose something it knows it will get that go...

just an update on the dog she pointed out 80 yards according to my astro held nice i flushed and got a big red phase grouse but im still thinking if the bird had run she would have bump the bird . i have been bringing her back to where i think the birds take flight and whoa her and ack like im tryin...

the birds she put up or flushed wild she started to chase so i told her whoa and she did stop. the birds she pointed my frind shot but missed the woodcock and the grouse we couldnt get a shot at it came up 30 yards in front of us so i know the bird run but she held point

hunted her this morning pointed 1 woodcock and 1 grouse i know both birds run she was a good distance from the woodcock and the grouse flushed 30 yards in front of her but she did put up 2 more grouse that she didnt point but i stoped her from chasing

i have to say when you get into a lot of woodcock there flight birds they do seem to hold tight mayby there tired from the journy but i have seen res.birds run from the point

that happens hear to most hold tight but have seen them run from a point but there great for young dogs and just fun to hunt

hunted the young dog today found some woodcock flight birds i couldnt have ask more from her held point all day let her hold point for awhile never broke once now when the gun goes off shes looking for a dead bird so back to grouse now hope shes got it down now

the ryman setters is a biger dog than the field setters of today the smaller dog are built for speed to cover a lot of ground the rymans are a closer dog the lews are somewhere in between thats jusy my op. i know some grouse hunters that prefer the ryman setter but like i said thats just in the dogs...

my two and a half year old setter will hold point as long as the bird dont move if it walks off as soon as the bird moves the dog bust in and flush the bird if she hears one take off the chase is on .so i know i have to stop the chase which means steady to wing at least just wonder some of the ways ...

you seen your dog will point so no more wing on strings thats all right for pups to do 2 or 3 times now its time to move on and start the dog on live birds quail or pegions when the dog is pointing those then it time forthe real things wild birds

woodcock are great for a young dog they hold tight and you have good woodcock hunting in wi. if you go when flight birds are in it can provide you with lots of birds

you can still have the dogs tail docked they will have to put the dog to sleep to do it and the dog will have some pain but pup looks good with the tail to me but you might check into it

iv never had this problem befor so dont know how good of advise i can give but you might try as soon as the dog turns to come back to you make a 90 degree turn and walk in a fast pace hand signal the dog to go to the front if you have pigeons you could let one fly out of your hand the dog will chase...
