Puppy feeding question

What's everyone's philosophy about how often to feed a 8 week old puppy? He will be alone for 6 hours during the day while at work. Getting a new addition soon and have been away from the puppy thing for 9 years.

You can start it anytime providing your heartworm test is negative. You then give it orally once a month just like Heartguard. The vet still recommended an annual heartworm test, especially if your not going to keep the dog on Ivomec year round. One note about Ivomec, there is another formula called...

Re: Ivomec

Yes it is the same stuff. Although there is another version called Ivomec Plus, DO NOT USE THIS !! My vet has confirmed the 1/10th of 1 cc per 10 lbs of bodyweight. So you are correct. I just inject it into a hot dog as the taste is horrible to dogs. If you have trouble finding at your local farm st...

why not just spread some gypsom out on the lawn, and maybe some fertilizer when you know your going to be gone for a few days. I have tried the Gypsom route with limited or no results. Your grass will eventually come back with time but it takes a while. Just rake it out, maybe some seed mixed with ...

When you resized the pic was it 210 X 210 pixels or less. Also after resizing check your file size it can not be larger than 29 KB. If it falls into this catagory it should work. I have had good luck saving photos for avatars out as a GIF suffix instead of JPG. Seems less file space than JPG for sim...

For Heartworm prevention you can save quite a bit by using Ivomec. It is sold as a dewormer for cattle and swine, but contains the same main ingredient as Heartguard. It's given orally 1/10th of 1 cc per 10 lbs of bodyweight, or if your like me I inject it into a hot dog. Many breeders and tri...

You should be able to purchase it at most farm stores. Not sure about the generic stuff though. Here's an online site that sells it.

I agree with Pear, size doesn't make the hunting dog. In fact those large dogs 70 + pounds sometimes lack the stamina and run of the 55-60 pound catagory. Just look at alot of your trial dogs whether they be walking trials or horse back, probably not alot 70 + pounders competing. The big ones look i...

msparks, I'd be somewhat cautious how you approach someone about giving advice on their dog. They may not take friendly advice as it was intended. It may be that the dog is perfectly healthy, I was only speculating without seeing the dog in person. Dog parks are not a good place to take your dog in ...

Yes, they fill in with age. All legs their first year. but what you described does sound kind of thin. Alot would depend how tall of a dog it was. 30 pounds doesn't sound like much, if it is a small GSP it may be nothing. A dog that is 24-26 inches at the shoulder seems very light. Do you know how m...

That black with ticking is very beautiful. I suspect he will continue to darken as he gets older. Beautiful dog you have there.

Those recommendations are basically just a starting point, adjust up or down depending on weight or activity level. You could probably switch him over to adult food now since he is a year old, Not much difference anyway. The big thing to watch out for with a big dog like that who might still be grow...

From what I have read in Byrnes's book she advocates pups in the 7-12 week age period start to imprint with humans (become people orientated) , and be taken away from the litter. If left with the litter past 12 weeks pups will become more dog orientated and may never reach their full potential.

I do believe the time is near. From what I have read it is not uncommon for bitches to refuse food within 24 hours of labor. Get ready its getting close. Her temperature may even drop a degree or two at that point. She may show signs of restlessness and start panting and or scratching to make a nest...
