I teach it formally with the e-collar. Was glad I did when we came upon a very large snapping turtle out in a field one day. Dog could have lost a nose or a toe.

If your dog lives in the house with you there are a lot of times when he just has to sit. I haven't found that sitting ever happens in a trial. My dog also bows to greet all strangers. He doesn't do that in a trial either. The judges love it! LOL

I took a 6 week course with my derby dog. It was great fun and worked amazingly well. Relay shuts the handler up which is what many pro trainers advocate. If I brought that dog in to my vet, she would be doing a variety of tests and have that dog on a food plan of her choosing immediately. She'd also want me to bring in the dog every couple weeks for a weight check. I can't believe the vet sent you home wondering what to do.

Shedding is promoted when the light conditions change - spring and fall depending on the amount of light. If spring is dreary for weeks , shedding will be delayed.

LOl I have no place to road. Definately not against roading. I do have a placeoutside the city to work my dogs ahead on a course for an hour+ without covering the same ground. Been through this before. These are classic lyme disease rings - stage 1. They go away and unless your antibiotic (21 days+) has worked, it goes into stage 2. I live in the city ; I have never roaded dogs.

I let them run full out for an hour every second day all year.( Didn't start at an hour of course.)

They have no trouble having lots of energy/stamina for a one hour trial.

The Brittany is the only breed my dog won't back. I don't fault her either because I can't tell if the dog is on point myself. I think they should have to wear something on their tail in a trial to make it fair for my dog. :wink:

Actually in Canada they are just referred to as a "Brittany". In the Canadian Kennel Club registration they are listed with the pointing breeds.
