Re: Looking for some help in North Carolina
Ceige209, I have been many time to this clubs events: http://sandhillspointingbreedsclub.org/ There are many good people there. The Carolina NAVHDA Chapter is an awesome chapter to join. I am a member with this group. They normally have official training days once per month in NC and once per month ...

Unbiased: Free from bias. especially: free from all prejudice and favoritism. That is from Webster's Dictionary. Not trying to start a hassle, Howie has nice dogs. But when you say you have bred for fifty years to get the dogs you like you are biased. Just don't see what the fact that they are prov...

Re: Bloodlines
The best advice you've been given is to find a person who hunts the heck out of his dogs on the game you plan to hunt in the country you plan to hunt and buy the pup you like best from that litter. Where NAVHDA lines, true NAVHDA lines, are proven in the testing arena, that means a hair more than a...

Re: Running Style/gaite?
With pointers, there are several different gaits that you might see. The first common gait is where the dog runs and its motion is a bit like a rocking horse...up and down. This is not the most efficient gait as the up and down motion is wasteful of energy. However it is a relatively smooth gait an...

Never had a dog yet that I couldn't get in the water. Some take a bit of introduction. Maybe all. Saw a lot of NAVHDA dogs that had to be introduced to water, just like any other dog. +1 Get them going as puppies, when the world is their oyster, as far as learning and accepting new things. +2. With quail, it 'a real easy to load multiple birds in a Higgins Releaser. I load3 sometimes 4 at one time. The way I do it is to hold the quail upside down with their legs and feet between my fingers. I then gentle lay all birds in at once with that hand and close the door with the other. I imagine ...

Just Call Me Roy was a legend of a dog. I have spoken with his owner as well as his trainer in the past. Both said he was truly a special dog. If you are satisfied with your earlier pup, 6R should be able to match you with a similar pup or at least a simular breeding to give you the best chance possible. I have several of the cube houses. I like them but see one weak area with one of my dogs. The aluminum angle they use on the exterior corners is so thin until they can pull and chew it if they try hard. I had read they will replace any part that a dog chews but I have not called yet. In many places, the AKC hunt tests will have higher attendance than the local field trials. Also, the NAVHDA hunt tests are steered toward the versatile dogs and have high attendance . The recent test for the Carolina Chapter had such a large interest until they ran a "double" test and still had mor...

It sounds as though the other breeder's pups don't start as quickly as the bloodline you have. The pup I had from the same bloodline as yours was being put down on a professional guide string at a very young age. As long as you are building good habits and only rewarding his points, I would say to k...
