Re: Where Is Everyone?

There is no "requirement" to post on a public forum that a PM has been sent. Many members do that to make sure the member sees that they have a PM as many members forget to look up at their private message alert at the top right of the page. No "dinging " coming from here. Must be a phone setting yo...

You'll find this to be true on all hunting/gun dog forums ; social media is more interesting to many people. Interestingly though , we usually have 40 - 50 + guests(and some members) on here just reading threads during any 5 minute period. They don't post, but are obviously seeking to learn from wha...

Got it. Sorry I misunderstood. There is a super breeder of English Setters in upper New York that you might want to look into. Yes , they have a history of Champion breedings, but not every dog is Championship material. They may have the perfect one for you. (My husband tells me that is too far a dr...

Re: New dog advice

Imo how far out the dog ranges depends entirely on breeding and training. Before buying, see how the parents work. You can train a field trial champion capable dog to work at 200 yards , but why would you set yourself up for that kind of hard work? Not sure what this means: " I don't have a lot of t...

Re: Million dollar question! Setter or gsp need some help.

You'll get lots of opinions on this I'm sure , but having had a 2 GSPs and 2 setters, I was very happy with both. Both were equally trainable; training ability for retrieving etc. depended entirely on skill of the trainer and breeding ; both shed some in the Spring and Fall.

I know little about teaching retrieving on the water. I'd think your best source of info would be the other folks you hunt test with , particularly the judges. Any decent judge is always willing to help. We have two spaniel experts on here; hopefully they will respond. edited as I forgot someone :)

It would be ..if nether is trained to be steady to flush/shot/fall . Add in honor whilst the other is handled. Neither dog is steady to flush/shot/fall. My pup is real young only about 10 months. How old do you start steadiness training? I’m worried if I start too soon I could affect his drive. THi...

Now we have a raccoon sleeping in our 600 year old oak tree. I assume raccoons can carry rabies. MY dog has cancer so has no rabies shots. Vet says such shots exacerbate cancer. Worry when I let him outside.

A launcher will make the training experience much more successful in my opinion. However, I trained most years without a launcher. You dizzy the pigeon, tuck its head under its wing and plant it in the grass. Things can go wrong. If you dizzy the bird too much , it will stay in the grass and the dog...

Good question. That's why I ask members to check the date on the original post, and not post unless the original poster has brought his/her post/question up to date.... 6 months old is too old. ( Although , when you get an excellent answer like Ray's there is still lots you can learn.)
