Re: GSP's Retrieving

Junior hunters don't retrieve, because they don't shoot the birds for them. You will see a few retrieves if the birds don't fly well and they catch them

Re: Pheasant Fest

I went to Pheasant Fest yesterday. To me it didn't seem like there were as many vendors or people as there was the last time it was in Omaha. It kind of surprised me that the 2 britt clubs in Nebraska didn't have a booth to display their dogs(The britt rescue people had a booth, but not the clubs). ...

Re: GSP's Retrieving

I've noticed about every GSP I have ever been around DOES retreive. If you look at AKC titles in a gsp pedigree, anything with a field champ, senior hunter, master hunter has to retreive in order to get those titles. Shoot to retreive shorthairs as well have to retreive to get their title. AKC britt...

Re: Do your new pup owners register their pups ?

Litter plus will accept a blank on the name for the new owner to fill in and file at no cost. All my people have either supplied a name or part of one for me to finish. I am sorely tempted to edit a couple. Didn't know they would accept a blank on the name on Litter Plus. I might have to try that o...

Re: Do your new pup owners register their pups ?

All our puppies are registered before they are sold, and if for some chance not, we still do the paperwork then they transfer the dog into their name. If you individual register each pup in the litter, you have to supply a name for each pup. Are your new owners okay with the names you have picked f...

Do your new pup owners register their pups ?

Breeders do your new pup owners register their pups? Since AKC has made it so I can look at my litters online, I've noticed only between 50% to 75% of the new owners register their pups with AKC. I just can't imagine paying $500-$600 for a pup and not spending $20 to register the pup. Another questi...

Re: feedin venison to my gsp

Don't feed too many deer bones at a time!!! Before I had britts I used to have 3 springers that I kept in the same pen.. After boning out a deer, I thru all the bones into the pen at the same time. They loved it--in 2 days the bones were gone. It bound the dogs up and they couldn't poop. I took them...

Re: How Can I Find A Pedigree!

Usually they don't breed a full brother to a full sister. More often than not on a line breed it will be a half brother/half sister breeding OR maybe an uncle/niece breeding for the line breeding. One of the better know full brother/full sister breedings was Brittany Hall of Fame Dog--- NFC Micro Do...

Re: How Can I Find A Pedigree!

Looking at the AKC numbers from the sire and dam, this is a brother mating his littermate sister. They both come from litter number SR469190. One is the 04 pup out of the litter, the other is the 05 pup out of the litter. The top side and the bottom sides of the pedigree will be the same. If you hav...

I think the main reason they are telling you not to teach sit is they are trying to save you from a possible future problem down the road IF you play dog games. From judging hunt test I have seen younger dogs sit while on point---This usually happens when the handler can't find the pointed bird in h...

Continental Cargo. They will fly your pup no matter the temp, because they keep everyplace the pup goes climatized. Only thing is they like to know a week ahead of time. I've used them alot and have had real good luck with them. They hub out of dallas so pup shouldn't have to change planes much. Goo...

Another thing you could do is call the owner of stud #1(dead dog) and ask him if any of the pups (from the litter stud dog #2 came out of) were sold in your area. He'll have records on who bought pups from him and where they went. Get ahold of the guys in your area and talk to them about it. You cou...

What kind of dogs do you have. If you have britts, I know there is the MO Britt Club(breed club) and Ozark Britt Club(another breed club). There is also a weim breed club and a viz breed club in that area. Post your breed and it will be easier to get you pointed in the right direction. If it is brit...

I had a female brit that would be solid on point until I started getting close. She would then move slightly to one side or the other and point again. I suggest you don't take them to AKC events anymore (field trials, hunt tests, shows, whatever) until you get the fighting stopped. The dog starting it will get wrote up for fighting at their events. I agree, join a club, either gsp or an all breed pointing dog club. You will get a lot of good ideas out of club members and you will probably find someone to help you train.
