Purina Pro Plan Performance 30/20 dog food has Glucosamine/Chodroin(sp) in it's formula. A less expensive but good food is Diamond Natural Extreme Athlete --it also contains Glucosamine/Chodorsin in the food. I would also look at some of the senior food ingrediants--I'm betting a lot of those foods ...

About a 1/3 of the AKC hunt tests will also offer a water test. It is a pretty simple test. A dead duck is thrown out about 15 to 20 yards out into a pond with a shot fired. The handler and his dog are standing on the shore about 5 to 10 yards from the water(water has to be deep enough that the dog ...

Mosby-- Lin Kozlowski(sp) usually runs a vizsla club hunt test at Lee Summit not too far from you. Also one of the shorthair clubs down there usually runs a hunt test within about 75 miles of KC. The event search on the AKC website will help you find dog events in your area. The Vizsla club of Nebra...

In an AKC Junior title, the dog has to point at least 50% of it's birds. It can be a flash point(around a 3 sec point) and then take the bird out on it's own(doesn't have to wait for the handler to kick it up). It doesn't have to back another dog. It doesn't have to retrieve the bird. It doesn't hav...

HPIM2347.JPG HPIM2349.JPG We had another good day on rez. We saw a lot of birds today and I even had a rooster get up in range. After knocking him down I even found him without a dog. :D Arnie got both his birds over Kate's points. She also had about 6 more points on hens. For some reason about 1/2...

HPIM2342.JPG We had another good hunt. We bagged 3 roosters & 1 quail and saw 6 more roosters out of range. We also had nine more hens get up in range so the 3 dogs had a real good time. They are bobs -- The bobs swing only in and let the pigeons on the landing board enter the building -- the bobs do not swing to the outside, thus preventing the pigeons from escaping the building.

My hunting buddy has a berg bros(MN) male english setter. It's a fast hunter(it quarters, instead of running lines), has a decent nose, listens, and is the fastest out & directly back(on the run) retriever I have ever seen Plus it's a good house dog. Good luck getting your pup.

Go to menards, lowes, Home Depot, or a lumber store and ask for 22cal nail gun loads(like CJ said Ramset). They are used in the old style 22cal nail guns to drive nails into lumber. They come like in 5 different levels(usually under $10 /100)--stick with the weakest 2 levels otherwise they are prett...

you said you have a problem with the come command, so I'll pick that one to answer. Come is usually pretty easy to teach. It will take two people, a couple of 15 foot ropes, and a couple handfuls of kibble. Each person ties a rope to the dogs collar. Both people sit down about 15 feet apart from eac...

If you get pigeons, get young ones that haven't flown out of the loft--that way they will think of your loft as home and return there. If you get adult birds they will home to the other guys loft if you fly them--then you won't have the calf or the pigeons  If you do get adults, keep them penn...

One thing about getting a started or trained dog, you will have an idea about his hunting ability and how calm he is when not hunting. I agree with looking at britts, pointers, & setters. You might also look at Vizslas as well--the ones I've been around are pretty mellow and hunt close. Good luck fi...
