Re: So Few Setters. Why?
There is no secret handshake, but you have to be able to tear down, clean and reassemble a set of electric clippers in less than five minutes. I never have to shave a Setter. There are some Setters who have excessive hair, but most don't. There's probably more Setters in Texas than most know, espec...

I freefeed about every three days. My pen is on the front of an old shed, so the feed is in the dry. I feed a good feed, Loyall AA, plus my young dog is a Llewellin Setter which means he's smart enough to not gorge.

Looks like very good feed. If I fed it to my Setter, I would feed the All Age or the Active. Distribution is a problem I'm sure. Recognizing that it would be more expensive in Alaska, I would expect to pay less than .80 a pound for comparable feed in S. Illinois. The all Age is probably comparable ...

The Vets are brainwashed in vet school by the do-gooder organizations that give grants. Give the dog a break, and wait until after the first heat cycle at least.

The different comments have merit, but I tend to agree with Ezzy on this one. I have never had a problem with any Setters ever acting that way, but if one did, I would probably do an ear pinch while he was growling and say NO at the same time. A few times or less of doing that and he will know who's...

Get a Llewellin or English Setter. They should handle the brush and terrain well. Most of them do not have so much hair that they get too hot either. Most are medium range, and will have good noses. It's not the fault of the dog who appears to be a lovable, good potential hunter. As long as she's spayed, I don't see a problem with a "dropper" or half-breed. There should be someone who just wants a good birddog.
