Re: Fat/protein recommendation
I tried the 30/20 formula on my female (spayed) Brittany but it was more difficult to keep the weight off even by reducing the ration. I went back to 26/16 and she maintains her weight better plus has plenty of energy in the field and at field trials. Each dog is different and you need to use what w...

Re: NSTRA Champion Ellie's Crazy Katie
Good job Nick. Just remember to have fun. Some of those boys at the national trials are awful serious. And for the most part, their dogs are professional trial dogs that are running trials almost every weekend. Sometimes difficult to compete with them but we can do it. I doubt many of their dogs eve...

Re: NSTRA Champion Ellie's Crazy Katie
Should clarify that Katie placed second in her field during the first round of the Performance. Good job. I see in the photo that you are flanked by Chuck Vande Hei from the Wisconsin Region and Chuck Ludolph from the Mid-North Region. Good luck if you enter the Endurance in September. I went to the...

Re: Question for you Raw feeders?
Are they still getting their regular ration in addition to the chicken necks? I would agree with Ezzy that the necks are not providing much protein, fat or calories. I would have a hard time believing that the necks are kicking up their metabolism.

Re: Those that have or had English Setters
My ES is starting to slow down showing signs of old age (11yrs). He's the 1st ES that I've owned.... anyway all other hunting dogs I've had lived to 14-16yrs of age. I looked on google and life expectancy is around 11yrs average for ES. Those of you that have or had ES's do you find that to be true...

Re: Hunting vests or Jackets with hydration
The wingworks vest doesn't have a bladder.....it has 100oz bottles (total). I, personally, don't like the bladders but that's because I think there is more water loss for the dogs. The vest is my favorite, and I've tried a whole bunch of them! WingWorks DOES offer two different bladders as accessor...

Re: Wing works vs q5 centerfire
Does the wing works have extra room to put a jacket or snacks or a first aid kit? Yes. There is a pouch on the back and also a strap to lash a jacket to. WingWorks has a bunch of difference accessories you can add to the vest. Go to their website and take a look. http://wingworks.biz/ If possible y...

Re: Wing works vs q5 centerfire
I don't have any experience with the q5 but I have had a WingWorks for several years and don't think you could find a better vest. They are built like a tank and should last a lifetime. Plenty of room for everything you need on your hunt and the game bag is very easy to reach and load. Loading the b...

Re: 2nd Hunting Dog to run with GSP
My first thought was that your dog needs to be force fetched. Sounds like you may be trying to do it yourself?? FF is tough to do for a novice at it. Since your dog generally likes to retrieve I would send her to a professional for FF. Then you could start working on training her to do multiple retr...

Some of us do not want to breed our dogs and do not want to put up with the heat cycle twice a year.Vonzeppelinkennels wrote:I see no reason to spay or neuter.

Re: Spaying my brittany
I have two female Brittanys. The older one was spayed immediately after her first heat cycle (about 9-10 months of age) and my younger one was spayed before her first heat cycle at about 8-9 months of age. Dogs are now 12 and 6 and I have seen no negative signs related to their spaying.

I rode up until about a year and a half ago. Always enjoyed my Harley but finally decided it was time to hang it up. Then on May 23, 2014 my very best friend lost his life on his bike. A young girl pulled out in front of him and that was all she wrote. If I hadn't quit riding by that time I surely w...

Re: Need Dog Transportation
Another possibility would be someone from the NC area that is going to the NSTRA Performance trial in Waverly, NE on May 27-30. The braces for that trial have been posted on the NSTRA web site so you could look for someone from that area.

Re: Need Dog Transportation
Craig, Nolan Huffman generally heads from his home in NC to his training grounds in Montana in the early summer and comes through the Dakotas. Maybe he would transport the dog for you? Here's a link to his web site: http://www.beelinebrittanys.com/
Good luck.
Good luck.

I ran my dog in a So Cal trial last January. I came over with the AZ folks for the challenge trial. I winter in AZ and spend most of the year in South Dakota. I run in the Mid-North Region. My dog struggled running down in the desert as it was such a huge change from anything she had ever run on/in ...

I'll be leaving SD for our winter home in AZ the day after Christmas. I hope to run my Brittany in a couple trials while we are down there.
