Re: Gunner or Ruff Tuff
I have the large double door Ruff Tough. Initially I was set on the Gunner Kennel, but I just could not pay that much money. I ended up with the right side double door kennel, with the handle and tie down kit. I use it for transporting my dog to and from the dog park, hunting locations, training spo...

Re: Reinforcing obedience with E collar
Hi guys, wanted to check in. Boone and I just got done with our first session with the e collar this evening. I ended up with the Garmin Sport. I had him on both the 15 and the 50 ft lead, and he did very well. I decided to let him off the leash and work on recall, since I have a pretty small yard. ...

Re: Reinforcing obedience with E collar
Thank you everyone for the advice! After watching the 2nd half of the Perfect Start video, I am leaning toward the command-nic technique. This could just be me being soft, but if I am wanting my dog to recall from 75-100 yards away, that seems to be unnecessary to use stimulation all the way, in my ...

Reinforcing obedience with E collar
Hello everyone, I have a 9 months old GSP, Boone. Until about a month ago, he had great recall, good manners and was all around a great dog. While he is still a great dog in my book, he seems to be going through a rebellious phase. Ignoring commands, won’t recall at al, does not listen to the “Leave...

First point
Just had a first solid point today! Was walking the pup on the 50 ft lead, turned the corner and he was on point on a rabbit in the trail! Woahed him until I walked up to him, tapped him on the head to release him and let him take up the slack! He’s picking up on it! Very proud day!

Re: GSP split nail
Thank you for the advice! Any suggestions of where to put the glue? We went all day today without any blood, then right before bed I put him outside and he busted it open again. I sent him to the kennel and the bleeding stopped, I have a feeling this may be a long healing process. It’s not bothering...

Re: GSP split nail
Thank you for the advice! That’s the plan. He is such a ball of energy it’s tough on him, but since it is so warm out he enjoys laying in the AC. Any advice on what I should put on it to disinfect/repair?

GSP split nail
My 8 months old GSP has a split nail on his right front paw. What would be the best way to treat this? He does not seem to favor it at all, and it is not bleeding. Any advice? You can just barely see the quick. Seems like it splintered or snagged, all of his other nails are good length

Re: Wart/Blister on dogs foot?
Hi, sorry for the late response. It first showed up on Saturday. We went to the vet er last night, and they cleaned it and looked at it. They weren’t sure what it was, but they said not to worry as it could be a cut/blister or a small growth. They said if it changes at all or appears to swell up or ...

Breeder said he expects him to be 80-95 pound range, based on parents. He’s a great pup, stubborn but very pleasant to be around in the house

I was told by the breeder they are bred to the German standard. I have another pic from the side that I am trying to get uploaded, just says it’s too big

When do GSP’s typically stop growing?
Hi guys, I just had a question about what size my GSP pup will be fully grown. Right now he is currently 7 months old, and I estimate him at around 60 pounds. Back in November when he was last weighed, he weighed 45 pounds. Any idea on when he will even out, and what height and weight I can expect o...

Not sure what you mean by the standing in front of the pup and walking towards him, but usually he will sit down, and or walk ahead of me

Wow thanks this is a huge help. I’m military and I work 10’s so I don’t have a lot of time with him except in the evening, so I try and run him hard when we go. Hi guys, I was hoping to get some advice on how to appproach this situation. I have a 6 month old GSP who weighs about 50 pounds. He has gotten big enough to when I walk him on the lead, he can pull pretty hard, and it doesn't become fun for either of us. I have tried the Wonder Lead, which worked w...

Re: Hunting Dog and house cat relationship
Thanks for the advice guys. I had the cat declawed because she was shredding furniture real bad. I think to it could be that he isn’t getting enough exercise, it’s been in the negatives the past couple weeks so we haven’t been able to get it as much. I don’t think the pup has any intention of hurtin...

Hunting Dog and house cat relationship
Hi guys, I have a 4 month old GSP pup, and also a year old house cat, which is declawed in the front, but still has her back claws. As the pup becomes more and more bold, I often find him playing with the cat and rolling around. I watch them very closely, and it never seems to get out of hand or too...

Ok, thank you. Would there be any benefit to starting the Heartguard now, even though we have no mosquitoes? It’s about 5 degrees out right now, and it probably won’t warm up until late March/April for mosquitoes

Hey guys,
I have a 5 month old GSP pup, and I am wanting to start him on some heartworm vaccinations. Do you guys have any reccomendations, or what type do you typically use? He is about 45 pounds now (Probably a little more).
Thanks!

Re: How do I trust my pup
For certain this dog is more of a pet than a strict hunter. I am mainly a whitetail hunter, and bought the dog to get on a few blodtrails to aid in tracking of deer. I plan on doing more upland hunting, since it has been something I have been interested in for certain. I am not the typical guy on th...

Re: How do I trust my pup
Ok perfect thats great! I will try the turning around and walking away idea. I just know it would kill me if something were to happen to him and I couldn't find him, that would be rough. Re: How do I trust my pup
When I say big field, I would say its about the size of a football field, and it is picked beans. I was actually looking into getting a tracker just to be safe. This is my first dog, my parents have had dogs before but they are all smaller dogs and I wasn't too involved with the training process.

How do I trust my pup
Hi guys, I have a 4 month old GSP pup, Boone. He is a great pup, a dream to have. We typically go on 1.5-2.75 walks each day, and once or twice a week I will take him to the big field to run around on a 50 ft lead. The other day, I figured I would just let him drag the big lead around, so he could w...
