Well saidGreg Jennings wrote:I have both a V and a GSP. My V would have a hard time with cold waterfowling. Warmer water, no problem.
I'm of the opinion that a good dog is a good dog no matter what the breed and feel that the advantages of having a supportive breeder close by should be heavily weighted.

I don't buy those ears, hooves etc. I worry about salmonella poisoning. I boil bones from the butcher which cleans teeth and lasts for hours. ( They can't eat them in the house though.) Be careful. My friend's dog chewed through the cord.
I use a heated water dish for my pigeons. If they peck through the cord - oh well.
And remember. Any anti-freeze lying around on the ground/in the laneway, ( which a dog loves), will kill him/her.

You can always find a place to coop birds.
I have mine in the garage - no pens allowed outside by a bylaw.
I have to clean up every day and listen to my man complain but it needs to happen.
It depends how bad you want to train.

I don't think babies and dogs go together.
I know, you see these cute pics of dog/baby cuddled up.
To me that's too big a risk. Even the best dog is unpredictable in that situation.
Just a simple, unintentional reaction from a dog can injure a baby.
When baby is with me on the couch, dog is crated.

Quick question... I'm going to look at a litter that's 7 weeks old tomorrow. I know it's best to let them stay and socialize as long as possible. But it is a pretty long drive and we have another dog so it won't be totally alone. Otherwise, we will have to meet the breeder halfway on Christmas eve....

I'm sure I just read a post ( can't find it), that said there was a BIG problem with a lot of GSPs being turned into shelters etc.
This would fit with the 2005 win as the pups bought would be about 3 years old - the age most dogs are surrendered.
Just a thought.
