If the bird (pigeon) wing clipped ,comes back down to earth with a dog that walks out to the bird, what will the dog do /Do you think? Depends on how far along in training the dog is. Also whether it's on a check cord or not. If the dog is steady to flush / shot / fall, you can "shoot" the bird wit...

My rule of thumb is!
If you are not prepared to keep all the litter until they are what you would want yourself ,then don't breed .

Keep in mind that he's still a pup, and attention span is normally very short. There are naturally more distractions outdoors as well. Has he been introduced to live birds and the gun? What have you done so far concerning yard work? Kennel, sit, here and heel? Is the dog collar conditioned, and do ...

Personally , I think 'Programmes' are marketing !
I don't knock them, but if you follow them and it works ,then it works for you.
Doesn't mean it works for 'Me and You'?...Hmmm , maybe that's why they don't have 'The one programme that works for all'?

It's a hunting dog!
It may have a breed name to 'Pigeon hole' it as a 'Brit'! ..But it is just a dog!?
Expect the same as if it were any new member(dog) to the family!,,,,the eccentricities of the breed specific ' come later! ..much later. (ino)

So... I can see what Polmaise is getting at...Using the high value reward, such as the ‘rabbit’ to reinforce the behaviours that you want. Teaching the dog ‘how’ to get the rabbit. i.e. sit, and wait to be sent to retrieve the ‘rabbit’, from the outset means that the ‘reinforcement history’ that is...

Nearly everyone reading this has heard about clicker training. Some have successfully experienced good results, and some have decided that it's just an extra step in training. A sticky 'pup ' on anything is usually induced by the conditions it first encounters.
At 3-5 month old ,none of mine would require a lead !
I always start heelwork without it! and almost always in the dark ,stopping whilst walking aint an option, moving along and next to me is.
