Dog is messing with me - water retrieves
My 15 mo GWP is a natural retriever. On land she does great. When I throw a bumper or ball she holds steady until I release her, then she does a great retrieve. If she didn't see it go down, I call dead bird and she frantically searches in the direction I am walking until she finds it or I call her ...

Re: Dog was sick and appetite is off
She's fine tonight. Ate her dinner right away and is pestering the heck out of me wanting to go for a run.
Still going to the vet in the morning though.

Now that I go back and read the timeline.... yeah. I called the vet and she had a cancellation at 8AM tomorrow so we are going in then.
There could have been a fair bit of algae, the river was pretty low. There weren't mats of it or anything, but it was a bit of a backwater.

Dog was sick and appetite is off
Last Wednesday I took my 15mo GWP swimming in the river. She had a great time. That night she threw up large quantities of water 4 times and didn't eat her dinner. Didn't want any water either Thursday no more vomiting but she didn't want to eat her kibble. Fed her chicken and rice which she snarfed...

Re: Will this "ruin" a bird dog?
I won't do it to my dog. Right now when she sees a rabbit or deer, she reacts to the movement, stares for a sec, then gets back to bird business. I've heard stories of folks that screwed that up and it took a fair bit of work to get the dog to stop going after non-birds. No personal experience there...

Re: LL BEAN HUNTING VEST?
I just got my Cabelas UPLAND PRO FIELD DOG VEST yesterday and have mixed feelings about it. It will get returned. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Upland-Pro-Field-Dog-Vest/1619373.uts?WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products The issue is it is designed to have 2 hydration bladders in it, one for me...

Re: What is my Brittanys major malfunction?
My GWP was like that, she took a long time to figure out how to be level when swimming. Before that her front legs more than anything just beat the top of the water while her butt kept sinking. She still seems to have to work a lot harder at swimming than a lab or the like, but she gets it done and ...

Re: Belly collar
I am starting into the flank collar deal tonight and bought a new Garmin Delta for that purpose and our daily walks where the Alpha is overkill. I was planning to use the vibrate function on the delta instead of stimulation for this purpose. Any possible issues with that? It seems to me like it woul...

It doesn't look like a real high quality feed but it should work OK. What do you normally feed, all you said was it was a premium feed? Pork is a good animal based protein source and Corn Gluten is a good vegetable source. Ezzy Usually one of the Nutro varieties. Maddie does not seem food sensitive...

Rancher's Choice Active Adult
I had to go out of town and was unexpectedly away much longer than planned due to a project going sideways. A relative was watching my 14mo GWP for me during this time and she ran out of my regular dog food. I asked her to buy my regular food and I'd pay her back when I returned. Instead she bought ...

I've duck hunted with a Brit before and it was fine. We put a neoprene vest on her and kept her under a blanket in the blind. She had a hard time sitting still but she did it.

Re: A pup's first season
The breeder I got my GWP from had his kids shooting gophers near the outdoor puppy kennel so she was exposed to gunfire as soon as they had the dogs outside at all When I brought her home I would whack a wooden spoon on the counter over her food dish once she started eating and she never reacted at ...

Re: skinned out nose ran into a rock- advice
The ears are pretty vascular too. On an early hunting trip with my pup she caught her ear on some barbed wire. She didn't even notice. When she got back to me, the amount of blood she was covered in was amazing... her entire front was soaked and there was a pretty steady stream of blood. It took a l...

I got one several weeks ago and generally like it. I installed the birdseye maps and the property owner maps from http://www.huntinggpsmaps.com/ The one thing that is a problem is it frequently has a hard time syncing the collar when we start out. I sometimes have to turn the collar on and off a few...

Introduction and proud of my girl
Hello, I am in Missoula MT and bought my first pointing dog last July.. Maddie the GWP. I've hunted with a lot of pointers and trained a lab as a flusher years ago. I am in with a group of 4 guys who have a private pheasant preserve and all last season (at least once per weekend and frequently twice...
