Grant, I wrote an artiicle several yrs ago on FF with the ear-pinch method, it was in several publications. I could send it to you or fax it if you have a way of putting it on. If not, don`t bother with it. Also an article I wrote about training from the rear of the dog, as in Whoa training to check...

Planned Snake-break Seminar
We Found Snakes! Are currently planning a seminar. We will get back with the particulars within a couple of days. I know it will be around the Atl. area. We can accept so many dogs, so we will take a 10.00 deposit per dog to hold a spot. Total price is 50.00 a dog, anything over 2 dogs is half price.

I think the price of a quality pup is reflected in what the breeder puts into their bloodlines. Putting the thought and research in to producing a dog someone can compete in different venues, and linebreeding intelligently enough that you could reach into a litter of pups and pick any one of them an...

Grant, the best thing for dog and new handler is to find a good conformation class. It is GREAT socialization for pup even if you never show. I would do some home stuff starting with around 5-6 mo old, then start a class when the pup is 6-8 mo old. It helps the pup cope with the millions of strange d...

About the only thing I teach my dogs up til around a yr old is "come." A pup at 14 wks is like teaching a baby at 6 mo old. They have no attn span, so why not wait til they retain something longer than a few seconds. Just my 2 cents. I like puppy Whoa when you stop them a few seconds before eating, ...

I was free running Logan & Cody this afternoon from the 4 wheeler and they had a few finds on quail. At one point Logan pointed in some thick privots, Cody was backing.I went in to flush and a spotted fawn jumped out right in front of them. I thought their eyes would pop out, but they did not move a...

I have never heard of this, but Rick gets Pigeon fever if he goes in the pigeon house without his mask on. I get it mildly if I do lots of catching pigeons. He has been around them for so many years he cannot tolerate the dust from their feathers. He will have flu-like symptoms for 24 hours or so af...

It`s not something that would help their intensity. I train to come off point in more advanced stages but don`t do it much. Ideally you want to produce the bird they point then heel them off. I never use the E-collar for it, and I rarely take them off point unless I tried to call them before they po...

I don`t think you mention how old she is. I would work on the different tasks separatly until she is 100% on the basics before putting it all together. It takes a long time to build a dog up on leaving for distances. Esp. if they are real young. One thing you can do is never call her to you when you...

I have shown dogs before, but feel like a fish out of water doing it. At 5 mo. I would not do the dove hunting. I would be getting some good flying quail to expose him to and get him understanding what he`s looking for and to get him hunting and some exposure to a blank pistol. Then work your way up to shooting a bird for him. This is 6-7 months old. When you feel he`...

My theory is=if you have the right breeding you don`t have to train a dog to point. I come into contact, unfortunatly, or fortunatly, however you want to look at it, with dogs of all breeding and see alot. Also have to adjust training to whatever I get, which has taught me alot. I ALWAYS try to prom...

I definetly do not free feed. I do not want fat dogs, esp. those running trials. Plus, i`ts hard on the feed bill. One of the best reasons is dogs that are free fed won`t ususlly eat on the road. Any dog we have will clean up whats given then while traveling to trials or hunting. You can put bowls d...
