Janet, 2 of them he kept, 2 belonged to his good buddy, and the bitch he got back from a guy who`s health got bad. That bitch was sold to a guy in Ne while she was here for evaluation, the guy in Ne left her for training. I trained the dam of these guys and a bitch out of the dam another litter. The...

Hey Tak, I feel for `ya. Sounds very frustrating. I have used the old 200 for yrs, and as Innotek dealers (Rick got me started sing them) we were happy with them until the digotal stuff came out. We have stopped dealing with them and have a Flyaway TT and Rick now has a Dogtra 2000/w beeper. I still...

Well, Ron hunts all his dogs. And out of 5 I worked in this particular litter, any one of them was a keeper. He sent me a bitch he got back at 11 mo that had not seen a bird. The second bird she came to she locked up solid. I am now thu about 6 wks of her training and she is awsome. They have more l...

Got all that Greg? I`m still trying to remember it, espically the part about not taking your dog out by missing birds! I try to pay attn. to the areas the bird planter plants, and pay attn to where your bracemate moves a bird. I try to go another direction than by bracemate if he has a really good d...

No, not on 3 mo olds. I would definetly separate pups in kennels and spend lots of time with each pup individually. One pup will dominate the other making one more confident and sure of themselves, leaving the other never being as good a dog. Thats why we never sell 2 pups to the same person. If pup...
I have started running my liver dogs, Cody & Sally off and on. I have a young male by Fritz I just trained out that shows lots of talent. I will do SH with him first and see what he shows. I hunted him in Tx last week and he found out what lifes about. He looked really good. I have a liver male from...

Picking a pup is such a toss of the dice. I picked a pup a couple of yrs ago that stood out from 3 wks on. Was the one everybody wanted, including me. She had every oppurtunity to turn in to the best. Was the biggest dud I have seen in a long, long time. She is finally starting to show someething. W...
Hard to say, I think Rebel is about washed up. That shoulder injury he had about a yr ago is pretty chronic. It`s obvious it bothers him, and therefore he just isn`t getting the job done. Rick said he would finish his 7th and retire him. Logan has a shoulder bother him some too, I just give and aspe...

Letting dogs "fight it out" only makes them better at it, and makes it worse. I agree with Tak, the dominance issue would be with me and them. Me being he boss, when I got done they would be scared to look at each other. I`d put choke chains on each of them, when it broke out they would hang awaile....
Logan
Gambles Rip-n-Logan finished his 6x NSTRA Ch yesterday. That makes 2 littermates sired by Snips Ticked Off to make 6xChs. (I caught up with Rebel). It`s hard to tell where he would be if I would quit messing him up.

Some Alpha pups can also be the the one that is the hardest to train, or the untrainable. The most desirable dog to me is the male that has high drive, loads of desire, but has a low pain threshold. It takes little correction toget a point across, they usually have a high desire to please an work ha...

Well, every dog is different at the level they mature. But for the Wirehair pup, I WOULD NOT PUSH IT. I have worked many Wires and KNOW they mature very slow. Pups are much more apt to focus on live birds at 10-12 weeks old. After you expose him to a clipped wing bird and have him real excited, then...

"bleep" Johns dies
For anyone that knows of the history of our breed (German Shorthairs) knows or has heard of Richard S. Johns. "bleep" imported some of the earliest and great dogs in our dogs pedigrees. He handled dogs like DC Kay Von Wildburg, Essers Chick, DC Fee Von Wildburg, Sepp Von Gruenbach, the list is long....

Hey Tak! We just got back from some hunting in Tx. We met up with Wes Barr for dinner a couple of times and he said the End Trial was still up for grabs. We hunted with our friends from N. Ca. and we all decided we wanted to meet up there for the End and some hunting, so HOW BOUT IT! It sounded like...

NAVHDA Test
I was wondering if anyone in the SE was interested in testing in NAVHDA N/A this spring? They were nt going to hold a spring test, just a Fall. I have a pup I want to test, how bout you Grant or Greg? They talked like they would put one together if there was enough interest. If you do you might send ...

I trained dogs to upper levels of obed, several UD`s and an OTCH. I never started on serious training until after a yr. (much like my birddog training.) BUT, I would have the dogs very focused in the right direction on their birds. I wanted them hunting boldly and independantly before honnimg any ob...

Well, after we came in and I saw for sure they did not give me a retrieve I questioned the head judge on it, he said he talked to the owner of the prop and he said he had removed the bottom strand so dogs could go thru. Then they said it would have been designated if it was automatic. Unfortunatly w...

Well, one of the worst trial weekends I have had in a long while, but on the other hand one of the best. Best because Sat nite we sat for hours drinking wine and missed my good friend that just passed, (whose family came, it was a fundraiser for them). We told stories of him for hours, cryed and lau...
Thats right, more ways to train Whoa than we can tell probably. There is no, "one-size-fits-all." Just have to experiment with what works for you. The origional poster just wanted an alternate method so I thought I would give my take on it. Yes, FTBrit, I use only the collar on the rear, and leash t...
My reasoning is, why do you have to pinch a dog around his flank to teach him to stand still? I use a CC on the rear collar after I use the handle there, and I may use the E there at a later point. But some softer dogs or more sensitive dogs really don`t need it. Just using the reg. collar there I f...
I`m not crazy about them either, the way I do it is about as simple as it gets. I put a nylon collar around the flank, not very tight. Attach a leash to the neck collar. I start by moving around the front of the dog, give little tugs up and back on leash, teaching them to stand still. I just do baby...

I think a top winning dog can live either place and still win. 2 of my top winners have been house dogs, and I think the bond is truely much better when you live together, unfortuatly I don`t have room for all my favorites so some live in the kennel. I am at the kennel a good part of the day tho, so...

On our website when we were trying to compile our important dog list and brag list, I have seen sites that put these dogs down not listing the breeder, therefore it misleads people to think theyare from their own breeding. Some of our Brag dogs were bred by other people but just sired by one of our ...
