I don't mind helping a dog guy.......but I have to ignore the aggie part. :D some of my personal observations -it is easier to shorten up a dog's range than to stretch one out -good genes do not equal hard headedness -don't listen to hearsay about a dog........ask his owner or people that have watch...

It sounds like this cat is really doing his research and that is great. It is always easier to prevent a trainwreck than to clean one up. It sounds like Greg has sort of taken him under his wing. That is one of the great things about this forum. You have access to so many people and so much informat...

Good lookin site Steve. I really like the look of your girl Flash. I see you are getting into the black GSPs. I am worse than a girl about wanting a "good looking" dog.....is that why you are getting into the blacks? Do you find them better looking? Just curious......slow day at the house.

Re: What do you know about these bloodlines?
All the dogs you mentioned were incredible specimens. Be careful when "shopping" for a puppy when someone says that they are from certain bloodlines. Lots of people claim a "champion-bred" dog, when the titled dog appears once in its pedigree in five generations. There are tons of great dog people o...

I have a version of the "stap vest." It is the most flexible for me since I can wear it over tons of clothes if the snow is blowing, or over a t-shirt while training or during the early season.

Re: South Dakota Trip 6 month old pup
I agree that you need to get a pup on birds as soon as possible, but I don't think this hunting trip would be the right introduction. In my opinion, there will be too many people and too many guns for it to be a positive experience for the dog.

Re: What type of shotgun are you using for your bird hunts?
Sometimes, budget does dictate. When I was newly married, I wanted a new shotgun very badly. I had to mesh my wants and needs with a convincing argument to sell the idea to my new wife! I ended up buying a Browning 12g A 500=G. My stance was that it would be the everything gun. It could handle light...

It is always best to go to people with those dogs......or watch them perform. One's own perception is reality. If you want to walk out 40 acres and move a few birds before thanksgiving dinner then your idea of the ideal bird dog is going to be markedly different than someone than runs the prairies. ...

I am right handed and nearly blind in my right eye. I started shooting at an early age and just naturally shot left handed because of my eyes. Putting a piece of tape on glasses or closing my dominant eye was not an option. I agree that switching to lefthand shooting might be difficult, but probably...

What is your opinion on breeders "strongly suggesting" that their kennel name being included in the registered name of your puppy? When I buy a puppy it becomes part of MY kennel and I want it to bear my name. Am I off base here?
