Greg- I was wondering how those trailers are during hot early season hunts? there are afternoons around here that can reach the high 80's in early oct., so i was wondering how that trailer keeps them cool? Also, how is it on a dusty road? cant tell if the dogs would be covered in dirt by the time th...

the breeder that i have gotten both of my gsps in the past loves a really long, tall tail. as you can see in my avatar, at the time that pup was roughly four, maybe five months old. a lot of people think that my gsps are pointers but its hard to mistake that all liver head. i dont mind the long tail...

Brenda- the Rafe book is the exact drill i have been using...with much success with my younger gsp, but i tried my older dog with some of the drills and was able to make quite a few corrections. it is a very thurough method and pretty much leaves no stone unturned. i went to one of his seminars and ...

Whoa Breaking
Just wanted to see what others have used to completely whoa break your dog. what i am interested in, is steps taken after the dog knows the command off the table, barrel, whoa post etc...basically, i can walk with the dog and command whoa and he/she stops immediatley. we talk about added distraction...

I agree with Jon...but i would start adding little distractions too. pick up something and give it a toss, make noises, sudden movements, just try to get a correction so that she knows that standing still is required with any distraction, this will help a lot when he/she gets around birds. it sounds...

the reason i ask is becuase i attended a seminar not too long ago, where the lecturer would not show a dog a bird until the dog was completely whoa broke, then with training, slowly bridge the two (whoa & birds) so that one meant the other. i do the same as the majority of you guys, which is trainin...

there was a similar post on another forum but not quite this spacific...just curious as to who here believes that birds, birds, birds as a young dog (puppy) is best or maybe you think that plenty of yard work to produce a whoa broke dog before introducing birds is better. please give reasons for eac...

i do the same thing that Ayres does. just carry a bicycle squirt bottle. the plastic is harder and wont crack in your vest. it might take a while for the dogs to get use to it but i have never had a problem. plus it is also nicer to squirt on the dogs back and chest on really hot days to cool them o...
