Talk to Biologists with the DNRs in each state and get Maps of public areas ahead of time. Start now. That will give you information on where to go. OnX is a very useful software. Run good 10 ply tires on your truck to avoid flats and be prepared to get stuck and get out (tow rope, snow shovel, hand...

No idea if they allow their dogs to be used as outside studs nor what conditions they might require around it, but SilverShot are the best Weims I have seen.

I have never used a Dogtra. Word I hear from Perfection Kennel is it's low end is not as low as Garmin and it's high end is higher. They use them when they need that higher level but otherwise use Garmin 550s. I have a 550, Alpha and the 550+ and 6 collars. Have had good service from them for the mo...

After 2 years of extensive and trouble free use of my 550+ and mini TT15 collars I had a major malfunction yesterday. I gave an ecollar correction to my 6 month old puppy using a low 2 (used many times since the ecollar was introduced to this puppy 2 months ago) and she reacted as though it was WAY ...

My Chevy Pickup has a spare battery tray where I mounted a deep cycle marine battery wired into the alternator with a lead run to the back of the truck under my camper shell. Re: How to teach "turning"?
The OP said he was confused so I'll repeat for his benefit. There are numerous hunting situations where I follow the dog vs the dog taking all its leads from me. It is the dog's job to find birds and with experience it knows a lot about where and how to do that. I use trained ecollar tone AND body l...

Another young Odyssey bred dog. I watched this dog in a clinic two weeks ago for 4 days in a row.
The dog absorbed her training very well. Her owner has been in that line of dogs for some time and put 5 FC titles on them.

This is another 6 month old Odyssey pup at a clinic earlier this Spring. He was so naturally steady to flush and wing they were going to go ahead and steady him up ahead of fall. The Odyseey line was mentioned. I have been around several of those dogs quite a bit and have seen nothing but positive in them. Jon Hann won a National Championship with his Charlie dog and says it is the best wild bird dog he has ever hunted over. Runs big and consistently finds birds where there ...

I use the direction I am walking and the tone on the ecollar to manage the direction my dog is hunting in. But I will also note I do not always choose to manage their search, as some hunting situations are best left to the dog and I then follow the dog to the birds. The birds and terrain being hunte...

I have hunted extensively with both the Alpha (hunt statistics) and the 550 Plus (no hunt statistics). Having data on how far my dog ran has never come into play in anything I do with my dogs. Question is what do you do when the pup goes the opposite way with the bird, or sits down and chews on it, or does not want to pick it up and carry it, or gets a little older and bolder and then does not want to return to you with it and prefers to play keep away. All of which are very common behavi...

Re: Garmin trouble switching dogs?
No they use color coding because they never run two dogs on one transmitter. So one transmitter and one collar for each dog, and they want to make sure they have the right transmitter for the collar on the dog.
I use a 550 and a 550 plus daily and have no problems switching between dogs with them.
