Not an unusual problem in older dogs, especially females, even more so if they're spayed. Ask your vet about Proin or DES. They can work wonders for her. My old girl isn't leaky enough for meds quite yet, but she can't hold it like she used to. Making sure she goes out more frequently, especially i...

Ok and how do Llewellin Setter's handle the heat because I have seen quite a few breeders in Texas with them but I wasn't sure. Thanks, Dalton Like with all breeds some better than others. I have a pair of Llewellins. and I highly recommend them. Indy the nearly white one is out of Alabama, and han...

Re: Opinions on activyl tick plus?

I switched from Frontline to K9 advantix II in the last couple of months.
While Frontline killed the ticks that bit the dogs, we had big problems with ticks coming into the house on them. With Advantix there are fewer ticks on the dogs and the ones that are on them are dead or dying.

I have a place to train that has a pond. I plant the birds, then get the dogs into the pond, then work the birds. They can go hard for a bit, before they get to hot, then back to the pond. You can see Indy is still wet in this picture. http://i935.photobucket.com/albums/ad191/setternut/Land/May13_65...

My wife and I bought some land 30 min from home. Its been great, cash renting the crop ground, and working on a quail infestation on the rest. Not going to make much money year to year, but with land prices going up, it should be a good long term investment. Its also a lot more fun than a mutual fund.

The astros 220 has a 2 axis compass, so you need to hold it level.

I had 4 young birds that I had trained to go thru the bobs. So I turned them out for a flight. They made it about 100 ft, when the trailing bird got hit by a little falcon/hawk. A big puff of feathers and it was all over. At least when I checked in the loft, I have a pair sitting on a couple of eggs.

Re: How to train a pointer to stay in range?

If you want a pointing dog to stay in gun range, you maybe should just get a flushing dog. The reason for pointing dogs is to have them range out and hold birds till you get there. When they are young and learning, you are going to have some birds get bumped. That's part of the learning process. But...

As a judge I rarely have a dog picked up, but there is no way I would allow interference for 10 minutes.
