For me a pups 1st year is about learning his name and to come when called. Other than that, we work on simple commands and obedience...such as overlaying the word "kennel" when they are crated or put in the kennel run, making him/her wait for their food, making them wait for me to go through a door ...

Grouse Season Wrap-Up

We had an email going back and forth amongst some U.P. grousers and thought it would be nice to post a season summary here: I had a great season save the pain of putting one of the best dogs I have ever owned down the third week in October. Early season was tough with a lot of cover and poor scentin...

The decision is based upon at least time, effort, money, facilities & access to birds. I agree. I have trained nearly all of my dogs with great results. Re: Can a dog be a washout as a gun dog?

The bottom line though, was that to be a grouse dog, the dog had to be a genuine wild bird dog. Grouse won't accept any pressure, but they will sure put pressure on the dog by strutting around in front of it. What it really takes to make a grouse dog, is to start with a dog with some run and a grea...

Nice box, I have a similar one. If you want it to be cool in the summer and warm in the winter, go to a hardware store and buy some corrugated plastic sheeting (3/8") and cut it to fit the walls and top. Then get yourself some rubber cattle mat for the bottom and the dogs will have a nice soft ride....
